MSU is a pretty good 4th quarter team.
-
I don't think Leach will get fired this year, but I do think fans will start calling for his head if he doesn't make a bowl game. Most MSU fans agree that losing to LSU tomorrow makes the path to a bowl game this year a good bit tougher. Miss a bowl game this year AND next year, he's gone.

Appalachian State beat Marshall 31-30 tonight in a who cares/entertaining game tonight.
-
Orgeron at LSU (somewhat) reminds me of Chizik at Auburn. Chizik caught lightening in a bottle to win a NC, as did Orgeron.
-
Yep, the SEC slate is pretty MEH on paper this weekend outside of the two games you mentioned. The LSU/MSU loser will have a coach with a very heated seat... more Orgeron than Leach. (Leach is in year 2, so he survives unless he finishes 3-9... even then he may survive and I don't see him finishing 3-9). LSU is ready to move on, I can see Orgeron being fired if he goes 7-5. Flip a coin and pick a winner based off that... no way I'd put money on this game. A&M/Arkansas is definitely the SEC game of the week. Right now, I'd put A&M/Arkansas/Auburn/OM names in a hat and just draw for 2-5 in the West. The winner of this game puts themselves in position to take that #2 spot (maybe even the #1 if Bama proves not to be a normal Bama team). Missouri/Boston College should be a pretty good game also. I'm not sure how many care who wins outside of those two fanbases, but it could be a very entertaining game to watch. Biggest SEC blowout of the weekend? I'll go with Bama over USM. After last week's close game, Saban won't pump the brakes in this game I'd wager. Out of the SEC slate: The UCLA/Stanford and Kansas State/Oklahoma State games look to have potential of being good games to watch.

Matt Corral is the current Heisman favorite

The smart money is one of the playoff team's QB, or MAYBE one of the playoff team's RB. Young, Daniels, or maybe even Michigan State's RB have better chances than Corral IMO. I really like this OM team, they play hard and are fun to watch. I'm certainly not ready to think they're a playoff team though. IF they beat Bama in two weeks, that's a valid discussion. Even IF OM beats Bama, I still lean towards OM loses a couple along the way and misses the playoffs. Who knows, still a LOT of football to be played. -

Bama would be a HUGE start IF MC could win the Heisman. If OM loses more than 2 games (and likely will), MC has zero chance to win the Heisman. -
Too early for all that IMO. We'll see in a couple of weeks. IF OM beats Bama, MC is a legit contender. That's a very big IF.

While it would be interesting, I'm split on how I feel about it. As you said, Freeze can score points. He also knows MS and would likely recruit very well. (It's easy to call Freeze a cheater- but seriously... it was proven MSU was cheating under Mullen and outbid Freeze/OM for Leo Lewis... so that argument isn't really valid). On the other hand, most of the MSU fanbase HATED Freeze, including MSU fan writers like Steve Robertson (which actually spent time going through Freeze's phone records). Watching MSU fans/Steve suddenly defend Freeze would be quite entertaining. I think it's pretty doubtful it would happen, but sure fun to think about... and not a bad move for MSU IF they can swallow some pride.
-
IF things don't work out with Leach at MSU, any chance they hire Freeze? That would be... interesting.
-
Winnable, sure. Arkansas and Auburn both host MSU and both sure look better than MSU right now.
-
OM's D pitched a shutout in the second half. It's "only Tulane", but still... obviously improvement from last year.
-
Very fair statement.
-
OM's offense has put up 444 yards and 40 points in the first half. I don't know if that's a record for OM, but it has to be close. Giving up 21 points in the first half to Tulane on the other hand... The defense definitely looks better than last year, but it will be issues against SEC teams.
-
Sure you can do that. Honestly, if I could make myself to find a new football team... Alabama would be my choice. If I were you and considering a change... I'd go with Bama.
-
No doubt 83, a win over LSU next week negates this Memphis loss. MSU still has a path to getting 6 wins, IF they lost to LSU... that path will get tougher. Tennessee State is a win. Vandy is most likely a win (it IS on the road though). Kentucky is likely a win. Arkansas, Auburn, and Bama just look a good bit better than MSU. (The easier of those 3 are on the road... beating Bama in Starkville is very doubtful). A&M doesn't look like a top 10 team to me, but still look better than MSU... and they host. That likely leaves the egg bowl for the 6th win if MSU loses to LSU. I wouldn't bet on that game either way.
-
Possibly it's not reviewable Satch. I'm guessing it was, but I really don't know for sure. I still would have called a time out and pleaded my case.
-
2 obvious reasons the TD wasn't valid. 1. The ball was downed (or the ref called it dead... take your pick). 2. Kentucky had two #4s on the field. At the same time, how does MSU not call a time out before the PAT and ask for a review??
-
That punt return for a TD has quite an * beside it. MSU got hosed on that call. Either way, the way State can't seem to block Memphis' Dline... they're in trouble in SEC play.
-
College Friday night games are typically boring, until the last weekend of the regular season. Tonight's game between Louisville and UCF was a very fun game to watch.
-
Almost every year, Bama gets better as the season goes. IF they lose a regular season game, it's most likely in the first 6 games. While I don't think Florida beats Bama, that's the smartest bet on Bama losing a regular season game IMO.
-
I like MSU to win and cover. I like OM to win, but Tulane to cover. Bama wins over Florida. I haven't looked at the spread on that game, I expect Bama to cover unless the spread is over 17. I have no idea on Penn State/Auburn. I wouldn't touch this game with a ten foot pole if I was betting. It should be a very good game... probably the best game of the weekend that means something in the rankings/playoff possibilities. Agreed on BYU/Arizona State- that should be a good game also. I'll probably tune in to that one after the OM/Tulane is over.
-
Funny, I had this discussion with some OM friends last night. We all agree, very small chance USC and Kiffin make up. I brought up Freeze. While I think it's a possibility at USC, I don't think they'll go that route. Besides, Freeze being next door to legal prostitution... USC better think twice. Also, Freeze's bible thumping aw shucks persona works for recruiting in the South... I don't think it will do so well out West. I can see LSU being open IF they go 7-5. IF that happens, Freeze would be a good fit there. I don't think he will be LSU's first call, but definitely think he'd be on the short list. Meyer at USC? I wouldn't rule that out a bit. Meyer would do great at USC for 4-5 years before his next "retirement due to some sickness." The NFL has zero patience with coaches, I don't think Meyer finishes this season in Jacksonville.
-
Valid points B4, I'm not sold it would have been different had USM had a better season under EJ. USM just doesn't (and didn't) have much to sell to get into a better conference. The fan support has never been good, and one of the biggest thing going for schools trying to get a conference bid is TV markets... Hattiesburg isn't exactly a TV market like Tulane (New Orleans) or Memphis.
