Hattiesburg didn't and I doubt they would again. It would have to be someone else and I think someone else can. Hattiesburg just needs some time because they will have some adjustment/growing pains. I think you'll see someone different representing 6A South in Starkville this year.

Hattiesburg has a brand new HC in a brand new state. If he doesn't try to reinvent the wheel Hattiesburg should be ok, but there will probably be some growing and learning pains with that, so be patient. Vance got Hattiesburg right where they needed to get last year and that was a prime opportunity missed. Both Picayune and Pascagoula will be better this year, so it may be more difficult for Hattiesburg to navigate their way to a South State title game. You're also going to have to factor in West Jones to that equation as well. Whoever gets to the South State title game will have definitely earned it.

Even though you’ll be surprised, I don’t think anyone else will be. Hattiesburg won’t be bad, but they certainly won’t be as good or better than last year and that is a reasonable expectation. Region 3-6A is still going to be between West Jones and Hattiesburg. George County has a prime opportunity to play spoiler, so I’m curious to see how they factor into the 3-6A race as well.

In 6A they’ve got Grenada and Warren Central at #1 & #2 respectively. Thing is both of those teams are in the North. That really won’t matter in the grand scheme of things because of the cannibalization factor.

If Jackson would reopen Newell Field (the one by Murrah and Bailey) they'd be able to avoid some of these logjams, but I get it. It's probably cheaper for them to have everything consolidated to one facility.

I guess the trade off is better for next year but it's not great for this year either.

I have to disagree to an extent. Picayune definitely needs a QB. You might think it's not an integral part of the offense, but Picayune's offense doesn't work without one. Having a solid passing attack to complement the running game is definitely a requirement in my book. You need both and you need both to be successful.

Since 1997(1st matchup against Goula in Dodd Lee era), Picayune has gone 17-5 against Pascagoula. That's not something you can really complain about if you're a Picayune fan. Pascagoula knows what's coming every time they play Picayune. With that being said, I expect it to be a great ball game and hopefully it will be.

They do have to play Picayune. Just thought I'd throw that out there. LOL

So what exactly is the purpose here? Is the purpose to try to find someone who can stir the pot in 5A? I’m not saying it can’t be done, but in order to do that it takes the proper tools and you can’t have a cheap toolbox to put them in either. I get it - nobody likes a stagnant pond. But are things really stagnant if they are constantly getting replenished? I can see where that could easily be mistaken for something that is stagnant because you can’t visually see the changes, but the changes are constant. That’s kind of where West Point is.

I wasn't really paying attention to that. d'Iberville should be in good shape to make the playoffs. They just can't lay a basket full of eggs against inferior competition. As long as they avoid that, they'll be just fine.

d'Iberville doesn't need an overall winning record to make the playoffs. Non-division games are irrelevant. They just need to win enough district games to get them in. They just need to win 3 of 4 against Harrison Central, Biloxi, West Harrison & St. Martin. If they win all four of those games then they securely lock up the 3 seed.
