I’m curious if Gulfport breaking the mold of coast football at the highest classification in the state this year may have a ripple effect into biloxi and administration start to help facilitate a change in how they perceive football. Seeing a rival do well sometimes has that effect.

Most of the staff, except for the OC and the TE/assistant o-line coach, were from Pierson’s prior tenure. The OC had also been on person’s staff at a different time before going to petal. Reynolds kept them. So I imagine most all will stick around.

There’s a 3rd Morgan brother. The OC at Warren central.

Officials erased 2 or 3 WJ td’s on consecutive plays vs George in 02 or they beat y’all. And if Wayne was in 5A in 03 the west jones waltzes through 4A. The state championship that year was WJ at wc for south state.

Wayne county beat them in 02, and returned 17 starters in 03. They were preseason number 1 in the state in all publications and nationally ranked number 16, and remained that way till week 9. And if not for injuries in college they also had 4 guys who would have likely been in the NFL (one who eventually did). 4 star RB Mike McLaughlin who injuries at auburn caused early end to career. 4 star lb Steve gandy who also had multiple injuries that ended his career. Eventual 5 star and number 2 recruit in country Jarrell powe who went to the nfl after ole miss. And a d end that was 3 or 4 star that due to grades went juco first and I think he flunked out there. Oh, also Drexker johnson who held the state record in td passes at one point that had to go Juco and then bad life choices sent him to jail.

I’m not going into details. Reynolds has some demons to work through. Things happened that were being kept on the low since his tenure started. It was likely a mistake for west to hire him in the first place especially knowing how things went with his divorce from south jones and the bridges burned there. Pierson retiring after the ‘22 season also likely, maybe, probably, had some to do with his wife’s medical treatment he couldn’t focus on the program. But his return now is almost for sure to “mend the fences” that were torn down by pure arrogance and refusal to listen to any all input from anyone else. Winning a title in a first season with a team that could have won being coached by a gerbil is not enough to crown one a God Also, who’s to say that there may not already be someone tabbed as the next coach that could come in and learn the community and earn back the trust that’s been lost, that may not come in as an assistant and stick with the program a few years before taking over.

West Point was 4A in 02 went to 5A as well. At the time I remember there was 1 student difference between Wayne at 4A and I think it was West Point in 5A.

I still think had Wayne county remained 5A in 03, instead of dropping to 4A, they would have met and possibly beat that 03 south panola team.

He did not meddle. If he did I do not think Reynolds would have been hired in the first place.

Even if it wasn’t Scott, and I’m not say it is, or is not, this would have been announced around this time regardless since the scuttlebutt is that interviews been quietly taking place for a few weeks already.

Of the school district hires Soules, or anyone else that doesn’t have a background or west or is an “known” head coach with championship experience, after the rift in the fan base from reynolds shenanigans, there will be a revolt. Honestly, getting Scott Pierson to come back even if just a year or two may be the best bet. Higdon may be good but if he is married to the ring T that may not sit to well with most. I personally hate running out if the spread so im more open minded here. I been hearing Mitch Evan’s has been calling and asking for a shot. Stating he will move into the school district. He would likely be a great fit.

A coast team winning a 7A title. Who would have ever predicted that? Outside of Calhoun city, did any of the preseason favorites for any class actually win this year?

Every 6A south team in the playoffs would have. None of the others would piss down their own leg like Hattiesburg does on the big stage as soon as the other team puts up any resistance.

What can you buy shake your head at Hattiesburg. They arguable have/had a better shot at this year than last. If they can’t pull this one out they never will.
