Don’t forget Laurel. They have more kids they pulled from west jones alone the last 5 years (not counting some from south or northeast jones) than west jones had transfer in (recruited or otherwise) in the last 15 years.

everyone in 5A south has a chance to win 5A south. But none of them have a chance to win state.

If coaching is deciding factor then I personally would put by bet on a Marcus Boyles led team every time.

Favorite to win 5A south you mean. They are not winning the whole thing. But they had a coaching change so who knows now.

Sinegal is not in the air. He has been completely cleared to play by the MHSAA.

Yeah I think there is a large gap between Heidelberg and the rest of 2A this year.

If not for the monsoon there at south state in 2020 WJ beats them by 30 instead of 3.

Seems like there’s hype around Pascagoula every other year. And I get it, sorta. They have lots of athletes. But they also always seem to be missing something.

I think picayune should be the odds on favorite in 6A south at this point. The coaching staff is proven and has been there. They honestly should have beat Hattiesburg last year and I think they exposed enough that Grenada was able to take that game film and figured out how to beat Hattiesburg in the championship. Hattiesburg for sure has the talent on offense but a new qb, new head coach, and replacing the entire defense is just too much for me to want to put them above picayune. west jones *could* but there are a couple big question marks. The o line will be fine. They lost the big rb from last year but still have the number 2 guy that’s now in his 4th. And he was the spark plug to several games for WJ when teams keyed in on the big guy and underestimated his speed. I’m told they are very high on a couple moving up from jr high. They should have 2 legit receiving threats this year that will be an improvement over last. But Lindsey the 2 year qb that was injured most of last year doesn’t want to be qb. He will play there some but I doubt he will be at that position every snap. So the question is who is the next guy? On defense the lb’s and d backfield should be fine but the d line is a huge question.

HAHAHAHAHAHA! he’s the one they hyped up all last year as the next best thing after they recruited him away from south jones. He had a decent season at sj then the toxic environment at laurel im sure didn’t help him there their fans wanted him gone by week 4.

So. Don’t get butt hurt when a kid leaves your program and does it in a way that dots all the i’s and crosses the t’s, and then to lying to people to get false addresses and then lie to MHSAA in your report to get a kid ruled ineligible at new school (months after the move and prior approval btw). Cause it may cost you or someone on your staff a job. Also the kid formerly from stringer is approved, again, to play at west jones.

Actuallybthe show itself was called “Y’all vs Us”, and while it followed WJ vs wc that first year it kept the bane and covered several different rivalry games a year for a few years. The rivalry itself wasn’t really called that, although some fans took it that way due to the show.

It was originally rotated. But ole miss and state officials complained about it being there every year they hosted it. Then after it went to 2 years at Usm, then Jackson (Covid) then 2 more at Usm, and the crowd sizes got larger on average, they warmed back up to it.

North teams don’t have as many fans show up as south teams.

They always do until they face someone that’s capable of hitting them in the mouth. They get down they can’t hardly fight back. And if they don’t have a big enough lead they start wearing down about mid 3rd anyway.

They have and are trying.

not just preseason prep. Some of their own players have commented how their practices are very laid back. They do not push having the linemen run all that much and do not push others as hard in the weight room compared to other programs. That comes straight from the mouth of some kids they recruited away from other schools.

Natchez has athletes but tends to choke during district play and playoffs if they make it. North pike tends to be decent one year crap the next. Flip a coin on them this year. Laurel, as always, has the talent to dominate this version of 5A south.. and I know they got issues in the locker room, egos, and outside negative influence. And I love to see them suffer like last season. But I also realize they may win 11-13 games.

They didn’t move due to being recruited. They moved due to a legal consequence and some information was intentionally modified ( lied ) to the MHSAA by the party that reported it as being due to recruiting. The fact is even if they were recruited 2 years prior, they did not move to WJ until after the legal stuff was basically dealt with and the living situation changed which put them in the jones county school district directly. Everything was reported to MHSAA before new years and they were cleared by the MHSAA shortly after. Then months later someone whose ass is still on fire about it does things to result in this situation. Now, a story from my personal experience. I am not saying this is the same type situation that’s going on with the topic, I’m just giving Insight into some things that could go on and some lines that should not be crossed, or can’t be, when kids move school districts due to legal matters with the family. A lot of this stuff is court ordered and sealed. Only certain parties are allowed access to the information without a petition to the court. So if a kid living in x school district with b relative for years suddenly gets moved to c relative on court orders, there literally may be 10 people or less in the know. And all the school needs is a copy of the court order stating who kids live with and the address of said person confirmed by id or water and power bill. Thats it. Nothing else can be said or done it has to be accepted. So if MHSAA says “sorry this person does not believe those kids live with you in this district now because the prior school says they still live in that district” then they are ignoring a court order. And calls get made. And judges do not like getting those calls. And MHSAA certainly does not want to be brought into that. Actually due to the situation I was involved in I now need to call the jones college presidents office, again, next week due to the morons in their financial aid office, again, not accepting court orders. Even after the judge sent them a letter last semester that they accepted.

There are multiple areas in jones county and the surrounding counties where just can choose a school. Always has been. There are areas in south jones vpu ty that has Seminary zip codes and kids can go to either. I know there are kids that played for seminary living in Moselle. An area of ovette kids can go to petal. Areas of estabuchi they can go to petal or south jones. Areas of Heidelberg or sandersville they can go to Heidelberg or northeast jones. Areas of stringer they can go to stringer or west. I went to school with kids that were st one or the other every year or two since elementary school. I dated s girl that lives in gitano community but had taylorsville address and could have went wherever as school buses got each district passed by the house. I know for a fact there are multiple instances of MHSAA looking into kids that lived in some of these areas and changed schools and let it go due to the school districts having agreements with each other. not saying that has any bearing here. I will say the kid in question did not live with their parent for reasons not part of this forum, but they do now. And Where they live now is what matters. That is in jones county.

In know where they live it’s in the community I grew up in. Several streets there on the jones county side of the jones-jasper county line the family can choose to which school to send them and the people they loved with chose stringer. There is a similar area on the jones-smith county line with taylorsville zip code for example but in jones county. A lot of Keyes family lives there some went to WJ some to Taylorsville. But in this situation the kids have since moved squarely into the “you go to west jones” side. The sister was cleared by MHSAA to play basketball at west back in January. Someone got his panties in a wad and lied to the MHSAA and there may be some legal repercussions. The kids will be fully cleared at west before fall practice starts you can bet on that.

Wrong. It will be corrected soon. Someone submitted false info to MHSAA cause he was mad the kids left and that he didn’t get the WJ job a couple years ago,
