No clue. Game was tied after 4 quarters and West Monroe got on the bus. Its the reasoning MC was given by their staff.
-
MC used to play West Monroe. It was a back and forth rivalry for a few years started by Hall but ending with Hart. West Monroe refused to play overtime because of some points system that awarded them points for a tie but nothing for a loss. It didn't sit well with MC not to actually finish a game.

After looking at those numbers.. some on that list have grades 9-12 included while others have 7-12. So those numbers on that site are skewed anyway. I guess they just list the numbers under one roof. They have West Jones and South Jones listed in the top 24. So if you go looking for numbers, just know that site isn't a great reference. My Bad..

Crazy but publicschoolreview.com has them with the exact same class size... How would they determine who goes where? Potential Growth? Add in the next class down?
-
These are last years class sizes so they will change. Some of these might swap places depending on this years class size. They are so close to each other. I wouldn't be surprised if Lewisburg went up and Terry went down with the way the DeSoto schools have grown over the past several years.

With the impending weather Friday who’s game are rescheduled?
JagsFan77 replied to Wareaglefan1us's topic in Football
Understood. I’m guessing it’s mostly aesthetics and 1 night of playability of the field most people are considering. Forget about the rainy night gate loss… it’s also ruts which makes for uneven ground to play on for at least that game if not weeks. Uneven ground that can lead to not just trips and falls but also sprained or broken ankles, ACL, MCL tears. When a D1 star player tears an ACL and loses a scholarship it’s gonna be tough to tell him that a completely avoidable injury is just part of the game. At some point it goes from personal preference to outright negligence. But to each their own. Each school has to decide risk and reward for themselves. -

Exactly. Theres a lot of folks who have never maintained a field with a lot of opinions on things they know nothing about. -

Perhaps "everyone" was a bit harsh. Field maintenance has always been expensive. Seed, aeration, fertilizers, irrigation equipment, the actual water, mowing equipment, gas, insecticides, top dressing, paint, rollers or sprayers, and everything else in the off season. I don't know many football coaches who paid for all that out of their own pockets. The money has always come from tax payers and boosters. We know rain happens now just as we did back then. But there's a lot less hesitation to move games now out of fear of being called a wimp and fields (and money) are saved because of it. Every year in these threads we see coaches and players called "wimps" or "soft" because they have the common sense to move a game and not ruin their field. I know its cool for everyone to pound their chest and talk about how tough we were back in the day (I'm guilty of it from time to time) but in the case of avoiding rain I am glad we aren't throwing money down the drain in the name of appearing tough. -
I think part of it is recognizing the talent you have and utilizing it. I've seen guys playing on the O Line that were the fastest kid on the team. A kid at 205 that would be an awesome running back, but is stuck on the line because the coach looks at body type rather than ability. I get it, not every team has 10 guys over 230.. but don't just stick a kid in a position based on body type. I wonder how many talented kids never realize their potential because of this.

I think most any student could do it. Like I said, we keep up with it. I'm saying some officials who run the clock just refuse to do anything more than the minimum.
-
We keep track of it, but only because its a student running the board and not an official. Some officials won't even keep up with down and distance on the board. Officials only keep up with main clock time and play clock here. I guess I get it. Lots of stadiums have varying equipment and they might not know how to operate it all. On the other hand.. some are just lazy. What gets me is when an official has a power trip and wants control of the whole thing and then refuses to operate anything but the time.

Schools with grass spend thousands , and into the tens of thousands, of tax payer and/or booster dollars to prep and maintain their fields every year. If you play on your field in the rain to prove you're not a "wimp", then you are fiscally irresponsible and probably shouldn't be in charge. If you feel the need to ruin a field to try to prove your manliness, then you must not be very confident in your manliness to begin with. Thats a YOU problem. Quit trying to degrade responsible coaches because people were idiots "back in the old days". -
I can't speak for anyone but myself but I really haven't even thought of him at all. Not that we'll overlook them, but with Brandon last week, first home game this week, and Starkville next week, I didn't even look at their scores until you mentioned it. Not to diminish their wins, but Vicksburg and Canton don't really give a good measurement of how good they will be in region play. They have too many resources and too much community support to not have a successful program as the years go by. He'll probably do well. I honestly just haven't paid enough attention to him to make any kind of judgment one way or the other.

I believe about 5 or 6 of those injured players should be back by then. 1 might be done for the season but I can't say with any certainty at this point. But hopefully the others can stay healthy in the meantime.

The Raider Network is probably the best high school level broadcast in the state and has a ton of financial support. Most schools simply can't put that kinda money into broadcasting. They also have lots of adults working those broadcasts while most schools utilize student workers. Its not really a fair comparison. But as far as quality, you won't see much better than JA's broadcasts.

With all the injuries for Madison Central, I don't think we are a top 2 team at the moment. The defense is just decimated. Several offensive players having to step up and play both ways. The next several weeks we are going to be short staffed on defense.

No idea who Brick City is.. but I really wish he'd change his name and profile pic if he's gonna be this clueless in these chats.

Toughing it out in the mud is one thing. Playing on a rutted up field with missing chunks of grass for the following 4 to 6 weeks is another. People spend a lot of money on field prep to just tear it up for the sake of toughing it out. "Nope.... no new helmets next year.. we had to spend $10,000 on sod, seed, equipment, and labor resurfacing the field because we decided to prove we were tough."

The coast is kinda stuck in their bubble most of the season. They have their own rankings and threads most of the season. I'm not sure if they are soft or not but they just play a different style of football and you never know how it relates to the rest of the state until the playoffs start. I can't remember the last time a coast team won state in 6A, if ever. I know Moss Point won 5A like 22 years ago when that was the largest classification. But the 6A schools down there just haven't done much that I recall since then. My memory isn't good so I'm probably overlooking someone. Anyway.. success down there hasn't translated to the rest of the state in quite a while.
