21 years ago, following consecutive 1-10, 0-11, and 1-9 seasons, the Ocean Springs community having had enough of being a colossal embarrassment, rallied and demanded accountability and higher expectations. 2 years later they reached the state title game. They've had 3 losing seasons since (and sent that coach packing for diminishing results later in his tenure).
It's obvious there was a similar sentiment (probably by a smaller contingent) in Gulfport after another mediocre finish in 2022 -- they would never have poached another highly successful coach if not.
Perhaps Biloxi wants to prioritize football in a way it hasn't in more than 50 years.
