  1. Past hour
  2. My numbers for October 2025 now puts both schools in 4A. I did have Booneville as the smallest 4A school. Now they get rid of PCS Classification wise.
  3. Today
  4. Who said MAIS teams couldn't compete with MHSAA teams? Didn't we just witness Greenville Christian beat Oak Grove a few years ago? We play Jackson Academy this year at home Week 2 and I expect that to be a dog fight. These private schools from the MAIS are not too good to compete with schools from the MHSAA. The larger classification schools in the MHSAA have numbers and the larger classification MAIS schools have Benjamins. Now if you take a larger MAIS school and put them up against a small MHSAA school, there's no advantage for the MHSAA school. With these larger MAIS schools like MRA, you're not going to beat them via the pocketbook, but you can beat them with size, athleticism, and depth.
  5. Don't be surprised if both are in Omaha
  6. Definitely will be the most interesting reclassification in a while. Almost every other state has a multiplier for private schools. We were one of the few without it. I think 1.5 is a little high but a 1.3 atleast like Alabama is needed.
  7. Isn't it more the fact that they can get athletes from a larger extended area to come to school at said recruiting school?
  8. It is amusing that, for years, the chatter was that MAIS teams would be unable to compete with MHSAA teams. Now that they've been successful, the chatter is that they're too good to compete with schools of the same size.
  9. Vott, if you took 1A Resurrection for example and put a 1.5x multiplier on them where would that put them? The multiplier puts these small private schools that have been in the MHSAA a long time at a disadvantage. Thankfully St. Al got out a while ago, but like @coastfootballfanmansaid, you might see them jump to MAIS because of this. But who honestly asked for this?
  10. I don't think this is a great decision and may wind up having some schools leave for the MAIS. When the association decided schools along the river couldn't let non-MS resident athletes participate several parochial schools left. This may cause a similar defection. The Booneville fan base was very vocal on FB about Presbyterian Christian winning the 3A baseball championship over them. Neaves is from that area and probably heard a good bit of chatter about it from old friends. These decisions to me generally seems short sighted and knee jerk reactions to a small number of coaches, principals, and parents.
  11. OM’s super starting on Friday, State’s starting on Saturday. I presume OM will keep their starting rotation the same. Auburn may have to shift some things around since their usual Friday guy started Friday and Monday of the regional. They may end up holding him a day. I think the Saturday start is exactly what State needed. Allows you to throw Valincius and McPherson on full rest in the first two games. Surprised those games are both midday starts, I think you can also argue that works in State’s favor. I would say both State and OM are underdogs this weekend, but I wouldn’t be shocked if either or both got it done and made it to Omaha.
  12. USM lived on some tight margins this year. They had 14 wins 6 losses in 1 run games. That's being very fortunate (lucky even...) And it bit them in Game 1 at Hattiesburg. Needed just 3 outs in the 9th against Little Rock, had their closer on the mound, but couldn't do it again. In Colby Allen's defense though, he was starting his 4th inning there. Lot to question though if USM's demise was somewhat self inflicted. You could have been playing Friday night instead of at high noon in South Miss in late May. You could have stuck to your regular rotation instead of swapping Grayden Harris and Camden Clark. Some opponents get a chip on their shoulder when you don't throw your #1 in Game 1. You had trusted guys in the pen to get those last 3 outs if Allen was gassed. They could have still lost Game 2 anyway, but with their opening regional game record lately, I would have used any and all within-the-rule options to win Game 1.
  13. What schools could you jumping to MAIS
  14. I imagine we will see some schools jump over to MAIS because of this.
  15. Pretty crazy stat I just saw. 5 of the regionals were won by teams that came out of the loser’s bracket. Chaotic start to this year’s postseason
  16. They are adding it for next reclass. MHSAA just announced it today.
  17. The multplier should be used for all the cruitin skools............such an unfair advantage
  18. Hosting can and does create extra pressure on the home team. And that pressure can vary depending on the experience of the team, the expectations of the team and fans, whether they have experienced failure at home over the recent seasons during said regional, the opposition teams of that particular regional (with respect to their own experience) plus the wildcard factors of the fact that anything can happen in a short weekend.
  19. Hogwash. The only schools where a double multiplier is in effect is for those schools with only one gender - SSC, OLA, and Piney Woods. There has never been a 1.5 in Mississippi.
  20. Been around since the 80s. If St Andrew's has 200 students for reclassification their official number is 300.
  21. The pressure of hosting is a real factor with certain teams. Half a dozen hosts lose in their regional every year. This year it was seven.
  22. First it was UALR winning the Hattiesburg Regional as a 4 seed. And pouring salt in the wound is Troy hosting UALR in a super regional. Of all the regionals Southern Miss has made, including the few they won, the one last week was probably the easiest one they had to get to Omaha. If Southern Miss has another regular season/tournament championship and 40 win season next year Southern Miss officials would be better off not putting in a bid to host and letting them travel. Hosting again would only be added pressure to them.
  23. What does that even mean? I have never even heard of it
  24. According to one popular Facebook page the 1.5 multiplier will be enforced on the upcoming 2027-29 Reclassification period coming this fall for private schools playing in MHSAA.
  25. It will be a trip to Auburn for Ole Miss. Seven SEC schools ending up advancing, but two SEC vs SEC supers, so 5 is the max you’ll see in Omaha. Two obviously the minimum.
  26. There are a ton of really good high school baseball players that get spread around the country. You look at Delta State and William Carey here in MS. Those two schools are probably mid level D1 programs playing at the DII and NAIA level. That is why I said there are no real upsets in baseball when you get to the Regionals. Every team is capable of making a run. Very competitive and that is what makes it fun.
  27. Yesterday
  28. Baseball is totally different than football or basketball when it comes to referring to schools as a P4 or mid major. There's a lot of P4 talent playing at those mid major schools.
