Everyone is pointing to the brutal October for State, but it doesn’t set up well in September either. Three toss up games that are vital to their season and two are on the road. As far as on the field, the defense doesn’t have the talent they used to, but Armett does seem to get the most out of what he has. I expect them to be better on that side. On offense, they have enough playmakers and Lebby is supposed to be good at getting them in the right spots, BUT I don’t know if they improved the OL any. They have to keep Taylor healthy. State was so close to some huge upsets last year. They’ll need several just to get to 6 wins. State 4-8 Has a first year head coach been more set up than Golding. Is there any way he can mess this up. Having a new OC is huge, but they have the QB, RB, and OL to be successful while working out the kinks. Kinda like State, we will have a good gauge on how the season is going after the first 3-4 games. Louisville should be a decent matchup, but I expect OM to win by 10 or more. On the road at FL after the huge LSU matchup is key. OM has several close wins last year. Can they pull off the close wins this year? OM 9-3

Defensive and testy. Someone must have stepped on your toes LOL. -
I will say Laurel keeps it close until halftime. Then WJ puts the gas pedal down in second half wins going away.

We're going back 3 years and still "butthurt"? But it makes sense to go back that far if you're a Picayune fan. I guess you have to reflect on the "good ole" days. Wasn't Starkville actullay in the State Championship game 3 years ago? Since then Hattiesburg has been doing what I do to the Maroon Tide and flushing it down the bowl only to get battered in the Championship game. -
Laurel was trashed by graduation as much as no one wants to admit. I don’t think they got much of anything this year. Yes a win by low score would feel a bit discouraging. But we beat Terry 2-0 a year we win state, so.
-
Yes that is correct.
-
Would a WJ win by like a 21-14 type score feel like a loss? I expect a big WJ win as well, but strange things happen between those bricks ever so often. Even if its Laurel losing. I mean how do you explain Laurel blowing a 32-6 lead to Hattiesburg with 3:30 left in the game a few yrs back

Bo knows that he's butthurt. He really doesn't have any ground to stand on. -
I been waiting on someone else to start a WJ/Laurel thread, ideally a Laurel fan if they aren’t in hiding yet, so I won’t look too much like a home when I have WJ winning that game big. Possibly with a running clock.

I reckon it's the calm before the storm. That's all I can figure.

Ohhhhh ok now everything makes more sense Didn’t OG just beat Starkville in the very first 7A state title game? Funny how life works lol. -
It is way too quiet on here for it to be the first week of High School Football. Not one post about WJ/Laurel. Starkville/Oak Grove Brandon/Tupelo. Clinton/Warren Central. Not much being said about Picayune/Gulfport Petal/Hattiesburg either.

@EnterpriseBulldogsFanAt some point, you are going to have to come to the realization that Enterprise is a well coached but will struggle against opponents who have better athletes. -

Run off from West Point.... What an idiot.... Guess the skin graft comment was thrown in there to make it sound more believable.... 24-4 with a State Championship and a State Runner up. I usually pay a little attention to your post but this one proves you're a looney toon. Morgan was the cog behind the wheel when Chambliss was there and everyone in the Golden Triangle knows it. Morgan developed West Points Offense from scratch. West point used to get beat by mainly Oxford and some others every year in 1-5a. Then they hired Morgan and never looked back. They finally got over the Oxford hump in the North in 2016 and have been in the Championship basically every year since they started running this Offense. Starkville beat Oak Grove last year and they were so terrible they beat Brandon also and went 6-5 losing by 3 to Madison, 6 to Oxford, and 10 to Tupelo. Oh and they return 16 starters. Starkville wins by at least 21. Oak Grove is to soft along with the rest of the southern half of the state. -

They hired West Points Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator and a couple other assistants. -
Well, we’ve very nearly made it, friends. With a decent looking Week Zero and a somewhat underwhelming Week 1, I figured let’s go ahead and combine the first couple of weeks to get the discussion going. Week 0 games of note: TCU vs North Carolina in Ireland, NC State vs Virginia, Memphis vs UNLV, plus Southern Cal and Florida State both in action…. I’m not a huge Week 0 guy but there’s enough meat on the bone this weekend where I’ll definitely be tuning in for some of those games. Now, onto the games with more of a rooting interest here… Skipping ahead to next Sunday night, let’s talk Ole Miss vs Louisville in Nashville. Rebels are a 7 point favorite as I type this 13 days out. I am fascinated by this matchup. Both fanbases will likely travel very well for this one. It’s not really Game 1 for Golding but it kinda is, and it’s against a really savvy veteran coach in Jeff Brohm who has a good team of his own. We’ve had 9 months of nothing but Ole Miss-LSU talk, and so the natural question has to be can OM avoid the lookahead trap? Do we know what we have yet in Golding as a head coach and program builder? I think the answer to that question is no….But you know what you have at QB, and that’s worth a whole lot. I think it will be close, because Ole Miss played a ton of close games last year and I don’t that changes with a coaching change, but I’m taking the Rebels to outlast Louisville for the W. I will give UL the cover though. Ole Miss 34, Louisville 30. State vs ULM - Dogs currently a 28.5 point favorite. ULM really struggled last year and for Jeff Lebby’s sake this needs to be an improved State team, so I will be disappointed if it’s not a comfy State win. I kinda think State will be out to make a statement on both sides of the ball and play aggressive. The Kamario Taylor era gets one tune up and then it’s right into the fire. I’ll be on hand for this one so looking forward to being back at Davis Wade. I have State taking this one 51-14. LSU -9.5 vs Clemson - the Kiffin era begins with a big Saturday night home game. I think we are getting close to the end of the Dabo era and I’m pretty high on this LSU team so I will give the Purple and Gold Tigers a 14 point win here. Auburn vs Baylor - game being played in Atlanta because John Cohen is insistent on being like his idol Larry Templeton, I guess…. AU a touchdown favorite. A lot of USF flare on this Auburn team, but I’m a big fan of Alex Golesh and could see AU being one of the most improved teams in the SEC this year. I have Auburn taking this one by 17. USM opens against Alcorn…. I don’t know just a ton about USM but I watched Alcorn last year and they were probably the worst FCS team I’ve ever seen in person. ESPN is telling me USM is a 21 point favorite, I think they’ll cover easily. A bit of a dull Week 1 overall, but I’m sure we will have an upset or two somewhere. If you made me pick an upset special, a couple I’ve got my eyes on early on are Toledo over Michigan State and a real long shot pick is FAU over Florida.

But they were still a 4 seed and they couldn’t even tread water against Hattiesburg and got shut out by Goula. Having a good player isn’t going to make or break them because it’s a team effort. Everyone else is going to have to do their job for them to improve upon their success from last season. Having a good player definitely helps, but that can only take you so far. I genuinely believe they can make some noise and are getting better, but who they make noise against remains to be seen.

No clue what happened but if you’re losing championships at West Point.. that’s a pretty spoiled fan base so it wouldn’t surprise me. I think Starkville looks pretty solid on film. Really physical and a lot of athletes with one of the best QBs in the state. But OG is loaded. I could see Starkville giving them fits with their offense as previously mentioned but if OG is sound up front they’ll be fine. -
PRC has been spread since Feaster took over or should I say functional spread. That’s probably a little more accurate. I’m not going to divulge into what was there previously. Now as far as them being region contenders, that very well could be a stretch. I do think they clinch a playoff spot, but I’m curious to see a few things in how Region 4-6A shapes up. First of all it’s a 6 team region with Goula, Picayune, Gautier, PRC, Hancock, and Long Beach. Let’s just take who made the playoffs last year out of this region and apply it to this year as an example. The only difference we could make is the fluidity of the seeding. If you change that up, then PRC improves their seeding by default because they wouldn’t be seeded 4th. The next question that arises is who can they beat this year that they didn’t last year in order to improve their seeding. This is where beating Goula and Hancock come into play. Last year PRC struggled against these two opponents. In order for them to improve their pecking order they need to hold serve against Gautier and Long Beach. Then they need to knock off one of these teams. If they are able to beat both Hancock and Goula, then they lock up a 2 seed at minimum. They could lock up a 3 seed if they beat either Hancock or Goula. I’m just genuinely curious to see how Goula does with their new coach and staff because depending on how they do could very much affect the seeding in Region 4-6A more so.

Who was runoff from West Point I don’t care what they say iin Starkville to polish him up. If he was still in West Point, his seat would have been so hot by now he would have to have had skin graft surgery on his seared. arse cheeks before Friday could get here. Didn’t Starkville suck pretty bad last year ? I don’t get the pics for this game. I think Oak Grove will spank them pretty good. That’s what I think.
