Pontotoc is returning 16-17 starters and New Hope is much more athletic and better coached than Lafayette Co. and Lafayette has never beaten West Point in recent past. Lafayette County CHOSE to end the crosstown classic because of their incompetence and inability to field a competitive team and picked up Port Gibson instead. They stated that the rivalry with Oxford no longer fit the “goals” of program. actual quote from superintendent: “After fulfilling future scheduling commitments, we will consider scheduling options more consistent with our classification and goals,"
