  3. Honestly Mize will probably draw some of the Mt Olive students who moved into the area as a means to avoid Collins. I do believe closing Taylorsville will be a last resort by Smith County to even discuss the closure of schools. Raleigh was only built for 750 students. If both high schools moved to Raleigh a new Junior high wing will have to be built or move it back to the elementary. Then keep Mize and Taylorsville at PreK thru 8th.
  4. They have Nanih Waiya, Connehatta, Bogue Chitto, and Bogue Hommo off the top of my head.
  5. Mize is around 850 PK-12 if I am reading correctly according to US News and World Report. I am having trouble pulling up MDE numbers. My guess is you close Taylorsville High and split the students mostly to Mize to put Mize over the 1000 mark.
  6. What about the kids from North Forrest they’ve gotten the last few years?
  7. Auburn’s offense did next to nothing this weekend. A lot of that is OM pitching, but I definitely didn’t see a lineup with Auburn that was overly scary either. But I may be slanted by watching State and Georgia hit a zillion homers earlier today. lol.
  8. Ole Miss in two. Not surprised. They are just playing good baseball. Finding ways to win close games. And Auburn while a good team, IMO, they were not quite as good as they were ranked.
  9. Ole Miss is going to Omaha. Just have pitched extremely well when it counts. And timely enough hitting. Will play either USC or North Carolina in their first game. And frankly they’re on the side of the bracket where a deep run is very much on the table.
  10. Yesterday
  11. And I am not sure if there is any pitching that can completely shut down Georgia. They score runs and then they score more runs. Yes our bullpen is mediocre but they shelled Valincius for seven runs in less than five innings.
  12. The question is what schools consolidate with who? Seminary ain’t gonna allow consolidation with mount olive and collins. So mount olive would just have to consolidate with collins alone. Taylorsville eventually is going to have to consolidate with somebody but I think that’s still several years away. Once you allow a school to go down it’s almost impossible to save it. And Tville went down super fast, almost like it was overnight. Now nobody wants to move into the town because they don’t want their kids to go to school there.
  13. It’s unfortunate that this is a Super matchup and not an Omaha matchup because Georgia is probably the best team left and State is probably one of the best 3-5 teams still playing, but such is life. Maybe if this team could’ve found any resemblance of a competent bullpen they’d be a Top 8 seed playing someone far more beatable at Dudy Noble and on their way back to Omaha. I don’t even fault any of the pitching decisions. All of those guys are varying degrees of not good. There is not a single person I can point to that I can say confidently “they would’ve done better”. They all stink.
  14. Sums it up. We are about one-two runs below Georgia.
  15. Georgia wins the track meet. State’s inability to develop pitching depth on this team is why their season is probably over by Monday. I really struggle to see a path to State winning both of these next two games. If you can’t hold a 7-0 lead with Valincius on the mound, or hold a two run lead with only six outs to get, how on earth can anyone expect the next two days to go better, barring some weird “that’s baseball” type shenanigans.
  16. This has been one of the crazier postseason games I can ever remember. State’s bullpen is pretty much useless at this point in the year.
  17. Out of those 27 schools I bet there’s 20 different districts. Cutting that by half or 2/3 would for sure save the state some payroll funds.
  18. Tupelo was already recruiting. I have a cousin that was recruited by every school you just named. Actually Biggersville is one of the smaller school the MHSAA refused to touch despite ample evidence by several other schools admin of what they were doing. I was told up front that there was an alumnus family with money that had ties to mhsaa that kept them at bay. Actually Tupelo is one of the ones the mhsaa would target to make statement to others. Big enough it would be noticed, but not the history or pedigree of other programs. Now that they have had success a couple years if it strings out a bit they could enter that “don’t mess with them too much” status. Same with Gulfport.
  19. there are more than 27 schools with under 1000 students preK to 12 but maybe there are that many districts. Hopefully district consolidation will actually come to fruition in some places where it would benefit the county and the students. the state has stayed out of individual school consolidations, letting the district boards make that decision. I predict little will come from this besides maybe a couple of small districts with proven challenges will merge. And of course the association should go back to even 5 classes at this point but won’t.
  20. There are plenty of students in the surrounding area. Doesn’t change the fact that they have on campus dorms for students who are not from within the area.
  21. speaking of recruiting, Tupelo has just hired Cliff Little away from Biggersville to coach boys basketball. He had players from surrounding counties and other districts annually during his time at Biggersville and was second in NE MS recruiting to Smith at Booneville. I wonder will he now recruit the area for basketball players for Tupelo.
  22. I hope they are able to go through with this. I think the elected officials have good intentions of saving wasted salary etc. The Starkville area is very much a better deal now. I am not so sure our unelected bureaucrat super of Education shares the same views.
  23. Agreed, tomorrow’s winner is likely the one who advances.
  24. If it goes three games I think that probably favors Auburn…. But you certainly can’t hate OM’s chances of finishing it off tomorrow with Rabe.
  25. Huge win for Ole Miss!! Ole Miss has had a knack for winning close games this year. Auburn is good but they have lost 21 games this year so they are not invincible. I do agree that for the road team, winning game 1 is vital.
