Buddy Stephens East MS Community College Coach.
BoKnows08 replied to Vott's topic in Mississippi College Sports
As the season unfolds the same 3 teams will be left standing as are every year. Week 1 is “always” like that because new coaches means new systems that others coaches aren’t prepared for. I wouldn’t expect someone that just checks a scoreboard to know that. Colin, Gulf Coast, EMCC, and Northwest will be the final say with maybe a Hinds showing up every blue moon. Week 1 & 2 scores are usually close and that’s about it. I won’t watch another game and I will bet you now that the eventual champion will be in the group i sent. Real Competitive. 2025: Northwest Mississippi 2024: Northwest Mississippi 2023: East Mississippi 2022: East Mississippi 2021: Northwest Mississippi 2020: Northwest Mississippi (also NJCAA National Champions) 2019: Mississippi Gulf Coast (also NJCAA National Champions) 2018: East Mississippi (also NJCAA National Champions) 2017: East Mississippi (also NJCAA National Champions) 2016: East Mississippi 2015: Northwest Mississippi (also NJCAA National Champions) 2014: East Mississippi (also NJCAA National Champions) 2013: East Mississippi (also NJCAA National Champions) 2012: Copiah-Lincoln (Co-Lin) 2011: East Mississippi (also NJCAA National Champions) -
Pound is back home and it shows in everything they are doing right now. Our last coach didn’t even participate in the ninth grade games. He stayed at home. Tracy is right out there with him. Most of those players you wouldn’t even hear about it a year. They would run them off. I think-some days he’s not even going back home and sleeping I think he’s staying up at the field house. He loves it just that much. I hope people begin to finally see there how much that program was being held down. Intentionally.

Games that we will learn the most from Week 2?

It would be nice to bounce back. Sometimes it's just hard to see the forest for the trees. -
Picayune is gonna be just fine. Last yr Oak Grove skulldrugged Hattiesburg 48-7. After that HHS reeled off 10 straight wins and made it to 6a championship. Just because you get thumped one game does not make you a bad team. Now if JA goes in there and wins by like a 42-7 score it may raise eyebrows . But i expect Picayune to bounce back in a big way this week

The issues with this team run deep. (see my comments on the Meridian post) There's a chance that they don't get a win until West Harrison or HC -

Don't be so disheartened. Week 4 against us might be a "who sucks less" game. -

Unfortunately I think it's gonna be awhile before they get a tally in the W column. I'm sitting at the under right now on a 4 win season. -

Sadly, I worry that may happen. Hopefully we play a competitive game, but I am not confident. -
Petal likely to have running clock vs OS from what I've seen of OS
-
You better get your licks in on WC now. They have a group of Freshmen and another group coming behind them that can flat out play. The freshmen have that size and nastyness of the old powerhouse WC teams. I would not be shocked to see some of those kids playing varsity before the season is over. The defensive and offensive lines are really good and for freshman they are nasty lol

Disagree that it’s not worth paying attention to. It’s as competitive as ever. Anybody can get beat any week. Last week, there were 7 games. 6 of them were decided by less than 1 score and 3 were 1 point games. -
Petal wins easily. Meridian will win and the following week vs Starkville will truly see where they stack up in 7a.

Love him or hate him Buddy's firing is a shame. The Board of Directors just like head coaches are paid to be in their positions to ACCEPT criticism and make tough unemotional decisions. To force someone's firing because they voiced displeasure in the way their job is being done is ridiculous whether it was public or not. Buddy obviously has some concerns about the current "playoff" system that is being used. Why couldn't the board set their displeasure with how something was said and rather focus on what was said and seed if their was anything to it or if they could improve on the current system. Knowing Buddy Stevens he generally speaks on behalf of all of the MACJC coaches and the issues that they discuss amongst themselves. Buddy is just the only one that has the "nerves" to say it out loud. Like Buddy or not he is one of the only reasons that the MACJC has not "tanked" it in football already. There is so much parody amongst JUCO teams it is hardly worth watching or paying attention to. MGCCC, NWCC, EMCC are so much further ahead of the others in terms of facilities and talent it is crazy. In North MS if NWCC has offered a kid other JUCO's don't even talk to them because they have 0 chance of him actually considering them. NWCC gets who they want. -

OS and Meridian are the two I'm most interested in. Does Meridian keep rolling against Neshoba or do they flop. And does OS make a leap from week 1 to 2 or does Petal hot clock them like Meridian. -
Myrtle is a better football team than people realize. Calhoun City has a win over 2A Myrtle who will more than likely win their division. Also beat Charleston in the Jamboree and beat Water Valley in their spring game without many of their starters and they have one of the better coaches if not the best coach in 1A north MS. You will find out how good they are when they beat Aberdeen this week.
-
I think it’s very possible Resurrection has a winless season unless they beat Christian Collegiate Friday.
-
I think the north could possibly come down to West Tally and Leflore County. Calhoun City will still be there, but I am not impressed by a 10 point win over Myrtle. Biggersville is down as well. Basically, the real question in 1A this year is can anyone challenge Simmons? 1A as a whole is pretty weak this year outside of them. In my personal opinion, circle round 3 if whoever wins Region 8 (Stringer, Lumberton, Taylorsville) can win their way to that point. If I have it right, I believe Simmons would have to travel to one of those schools. That is what I believe will be Simmons’ biggest challenge.

How about let's just have 10 Juco programs who all play each other in a round robin, then the champion get a national playoff bid without an additional playoff? That makes too much sense. -

Yep. When I saw Richton lost to St Patrick in the jamboree I knew that whole division was weak
-
Yes. I believe Taylorsville will beat them. And they may even beat richton and finish 3rd. I just don’t see them beating Lumberton and Lumberton isn’t that good either this year.
