NoWammies
Figured I’d start a ladies thread so didn’t interfere with the guys. Ole Miss almost pulled off a near upset today in Paris against #3 USC and future #1 pick JuJu Watkins. Unfortunately ended up losing 68-66. Had a critical turnover with 20 secs left off an inbound pass that resulted in a 2 on 1 fast break for USC and a foul on Ole Miss. USC hit the two FT’s to take the 2 point lead with 9 secs left and Ole Miss was unable to hit the shot at the buzzer. USC hit 17 straight FT’s down the stretch that helped them out a lot. Feisty defensive effort for the Lady Rebs though as they caused 26 turnovers. Coach Yo’s groups have always been relentless on the defensive side of the ball and look like they’ll be the same this year.
sportsmaniac10
First half was definitely rough on the offensive side of the ball and shooting was horrendous but they found a rhythm in the second half. I was happy to see us truly compete with a top 5 team on the court. We unfortunately had a signature WAOM moment as we should’ve closed this game out but we beat ourselves. But on a positive note outside of the Stanford upset in the NCAAs a few years back and despite the progress Coach Yo has made, we’ve rarely (basically never) been competitive with the elite teams under her tenure. Today was a much different look. We looked ready to compete. Hope this fearless attitude continues. The big questions will be can we consistently shoot the 3 well enough on offense to make teams come out and guard us. KK Deans showed today how much we missed her last season. And how will we match up with teams that have some height as we are a little shorter in the post than years past. As we saw today Southern Cal definitely took advantage of this and pounded us in the paint. I also like that Coach Yo made a tougher non conference schedule this year. Will likely play UCONN in the thanksgiving tournament assuming we take care of business in the first round and also a road game against a top 10 NC State team. its a long way to March but optimistic with what I saw today.
Dawg83
State had a lot of turnover (assistant coaches and the roster) so not totally sure what to expect. I also am not just totally sold on Purcell for whatever reason. I don’t know why exactly, just something about him that’s a little different for me. NoWammies
I was surprised Purcell was unable to land HVL and she chose TCU instead. I figured she was a given to transfer there since they had a connection at Louisville.
