Why is there even a thread for this game?  Vancleave (or Van Cleave spell check compliant) should win this thing in blowout fashion.

It's one word - "Vancleave"

I said in the post "may be reaching a small audience."

There is no litmus test for worthy posts and you're not a gate-keeper.  I simply decided to take the time to throw together game previews for Vancleave's region games this season and post them to my TWTR and FB.  Then I thought, why not post them here.  By comparison, if someone wanted to make a post about a Sebastopol vs Leake County game they have every right to do that as well ...

Oh I know Vancleave is one word.  They shouldn’t have any problems with Long Beach tonight .  Fant wins big tonight.  I certainly wasn’t trying to be offensive to you.  I enjoyed reading the stats you posted.

Thanks.  I appreciate that.  I may have responded too strongly.  But I have a great site to use and I'll be posting these weekly.

From the Sun Herald 09/02/1989:

"Vancleave and Long Beach battled to a scoreless tie Friday at Lance Lumpkin Stadium in Long Beach in the season-opener for both teams... Although a sudden-death playoff formula is commonly used, the teams did not agree to play the overtime period before the game started as required by Mississippi High School Activities Association rules."

Wow! Somebody thought they had it in the bag! Long Beach just about snuck out of there with a W!

Got to give those Long Beach kids a lot of credit. They haven’t won in a while, but keep playing hard. Here’s hoping that they find a way to win one this season.

long beach is not quite as bad ad some might think.

btw does vancleave have a defense?

34-17 at half, put the JV Defense/Offense after half. I’m telling you Vancleave could’ve hung 80 on them.  Then Long Beach got 3 onside kicks in a row. Coach put some of the ones back in on Long Beach’s last drive. Crazy

51-23 with 8:00 left in 4Q , following ensues

LBHS OS kick recovery - TD vs VHS backups

LBHS OS kick recovery - TD vs VHS backups

LBHS OS kick recovery - TD vs VHS starters

Now 51-43 - Vancleave recovers OS kick and runs clock out

Every OS kick Long Beach's kicker was 1/2 yard offsides with his front plant foot - never called even with an asst coach in Side Judge's ear on last attempt.

I believe it was 2Q and the following occurred:

Vancleave OS kick recovered at LBHS 46 by Long Beach.

2 game balls were sent into play and given to two different officials.

One placed at correct LBHS 46 - the other placed at VHS 46.

The wrong ball is picked up and line of scrimmage for 1st down in now the Vancleave 46 - LBHS given 8 free yards of offense.

Oh boy !!

The kicker is an exception to offsides on kickoffs. Look it up in NFHS

Just like Bill Parcells says, "You are what your record says you are, the score is what it says it is."

I was more just giving the sequence of events that led to them scoring 20 in a row.  As far as how it got to 51, a young man that usually plays receiver scored the last TD as a running back with starting RB out of game.  No excuses.

Long Beach was not given a free 8 yards. On the kickoff, the ball was first touched by Vancleave at the Vancleave 48 yard line. The ball was placed at the spot of first touching. No Oh Boy moment.

Throws you off seeing two balls placed by two different officials. I don't recall a penalty being announced for illegal touching.

You might want to go ahead and start on your list for next Saturday.

Sometimes reading is hard.  I communicated that I was documenting a series of events that led to a 20-0 run.  Then I literally said, "no excuses!"

Then you want to go on about a list for the next week in a game Vancleave would be a huge underdog and no one would expect a win in the first place. C'mon Man !!
