Washed_Up_Athlete
I'm sure it varies depending on the job, so I guess there are highest, mid-level, and lowest paying categories in each division.
coachfball87
Outside of the coast, Madison County, and like Tupelo, Oxford, not very much. Most get like a $5K supplement added to their teaching salaries.
TK_on_the_Coast
I believe base pay for a head football coach in Jackson County (East Central / St Martin / Vancleave) is $70,000 I believe this began the same year all three high schools had turf playing surfaces installed (within last five years - not certain how long it's been)

I know some of those places have the district pay, and then booster club takes up huge donations to supplement coach salaries. Others like on the coast have Oil Rig/Casino money that drives theirs up.
Old Golfer
Word Tupelo cut salary down into the 70-80 range. Think I read where guy at Meridian was at 90+ and no classes.
JagsFan77
It would also depend on whether the Head Coach is also the Athletic Director. That's a teacher base salary versus an administrator base salary. I've seen many more large schools lately having an AD-only position who doesn't actually coach anything. It keeps an AD from favoring the sport they coach as well as gives the AD more time to work with the sponsors and boosters associated with those larger programs. The only thing is that many of these Head Coaches have been ADs, so they might not accept a job if they are required to go back into the classroom and take a cut in pay even if its a better program. Its got its pros and cons for sure.
Olcoach77
Most 6a jobs in Metro area now pay 95-132k you can go and look on “open the books” and see what the each schools pays, most of these jobs have some type administration tied with it. It’s all public information, the crazy thing is looking at what some of these superintendents make.
Vott
I know a lot of folks will think that a coach making 80,000 to 100,000k is too much for a high school coach to be making but if you look at the hours he puts in, that salary isnt as much as it seems. I would say during a school week in the football season a coach puts in about 12hrs or more Monday-Thursday. Then on Friday I would say 18hrs. He probably comes to the fieldhouse on Saturday to help wash the uniforms and then comes back on Sunday to start working on the gameplan for next week. So if you think coaches are in it for the money, that is definitely not the case.
