rebmus
28 years old, was Lane's OC at FAU.
MSTSatchmo
He was part of a really good offense at FAU with Kiffin, and a not so good offense at USF the last two years. He will be with Kiffin again, so he should have more success. Lol
Dawg83
On paper it seems like a clear step down from Lebby but I would assume Kiffin is going to call plays so it may not be a huge deal. I get it because of the familiarity factor, that’s about the only reason it makes sense though. Edited December 30, 2021 by Dawg83
longhorn75
Pretty high-risk, high-reward hire for sure. This is obviously Charlie Weis's son so expectations are lofty. . But, here's hoping he's a better college coach than Charlie Sr. was at Notre Dame, and Kansas, and at Florida as the OC. Weis Jr. had one good offensive year at FAU. Maybe he will be good in the SEC, time shall tell. Expecting Kiffin to call the O at first though.
pancho
And I was told the reason Kiffin waited to make this hire was because the person was prepping a team for an upcoming bowl game. Was Weis a fall back hire ?
MSTSatchmo
Durkin is heading to A&M. I didn’t realize he was the co-DC. Will OM hire someone for the same position or just a position coach?
rebmus
Lateral move** Kidding aside, it's been quite a change for Ole Miss lately. In the past, OM is firing OCs and DCs... now other teams are hiring them away. Lane has done quite a job his first two seasons. We'll see how he does going forward, I hope Ole Miss fans are realistic enough (probably not) to realize next year will be a rebuilding year and 6-7 wins should be the expectation. Unrealistic expectations seem to be the norm for most fanbases though. I think Lebby will do a great job- but Oklahoma needs to have some patience with him considering how many players have entered the portal... especially BOTH Rattler and Williams. A&M already had talent and reloaded with a ton of talent with this recruiting class. Durkin may well be an "immediate success" next year at A&M, he came into a great opportunity to pad his resume and bank account. Good for him, I wish him the best- other than when he coaches against Ole Miss.
MSTSatchmo
Success for a head coach a lot of time depends on who he hires as coordinators. Kiffin’s first two were home runs. The next to could go either way. It’s still his offense though, so the DC loss could be bigger than the OC. Durkin did wonders with OM’s defense. It’s scary what he may be able to do with the talent A&M is compiling. Until they transfer.
Hard Knocks
Time will tell, but I’m not impressed with this hire. Seems like it was a Hail Mary for Kiffin and not his #1 choice. I can only hope it doesn’t deter Arch Manning from coming.

Lebby will struggle mightily with OU at first. Along with Corral I really think Lebby was overrated as well. Look at how bad Ole Miss’ offense looked for most of the season. It struggled and all we heard about was how great Lebby was. Reminded me of the years when Cutcliffe was said to be an offensive genius. pancho
Lebby will do fine in a league in which defense is sometimes not required.

pancho
He ain't going anywhere. Even his loyal followers are getting tired of the rumors because it's hurting with potential portal players.
rebmus
"Just a rival school making up rumors"** Kiffin at Ole Miss is very similar to Mullen at MSU so far, he'll be rumored for many openings due to he's winning and there's also truth that he'll move on to "bigger/better jobs" if the offer is right.
