You do a good job with these but have missed what will definitely be a 2A. Walnut is a K-12 school but the area has a K-8 school, Chalybeate, that feeds into Walnut when the kids enter 9th grade.Walnut 8-10 enrollment per the MDE tool is 137. Chalybeate has 36 8th graders so their total would be 173 give or take a handful.

As referenced in another thread in 2027 the entire district will shift as Falkner becomes only K-5, Chalybeate will be K-5, and the Walnut campus becomes only 6-12 and takes the name North Tippah High School. I figure they wind up 3A.

I grew up in an adjacent county to Tippah so am pretty familliar with the area.

Ok I noticed the Elementary School but didn't look to see. Most importantly is the October 2024 numbers will determine Reclassification. I thought Walnut was a 2A. Certainly 2 of the 3 bottom schools will drop down. However the current rule is that 2 or more schools are tied at the bottom they all must go up. That will make 42 schools in my 2A list.

I'm confident those three schools won't stay tied with those exact numbers as there will always be a little churn during the summer and fall. Also when getting down to 1A/2A lines a big or small class can shift a school pretty easily. Baldwyn is 1A for this cycle but is safely 2A based on the visible numbers while Ingomar is currently 2A but looks to possibly go back to 1A. '

For the record I still hate 7 classes and think 5 is actually plenty as more schools will wind up consolidating.

He already said the new north tippah will be 2A and provided numbers. 2026 numbers show 191-2A

Yes 5 classes with 8 regions of at least 6 or 7 schools per region makes it better for scheduling. 6 classes just adds more playoff teams, more money to the state and 2-8 teams in the playoffs.

It's going to change annually. Especially the bottom 10 top 10 of a class.

It's far too early to predict what things will look like in 2026 when these numbers actually play out but I anticipate NTHS will be 3A if the system we are using today remains in place, maybe on the smaller end of the scale.

272 if you count the 6th-8th grade numbers and middle of the road 3A by that time.

I was looking if Velma or Leake County go north then Enterprise Lincoln or Bogue Chitto will have to come east. Then 41 schools if Taylorsville stays 1A works it out pretty close to what you have here.

I was also looking at leaving Bay Springs and Heidelberg together.

After going back and looking I actually put VJ, Bay Springs, Lake, Pelahatchie, and Puckett together. Which left one of the Lincoln County schools moving to Region 8. Simply because in previous years under previous administration they put Taylorsville and Bay Springs with the Scott County or Rankin County Schools in Region 6.

No Union, Lake, Bay Spring, needs to be together.

I don’t think union will be with lake and bay springs. I think Bay springs and Lake would be with Newton, Clarkdale, and Enterprise. I think Union would have to pair up with Velma Jackson, Leake, Puckett, and Pelahatchie. I don’t see any other way you could logistically pair it up because of all the southwestern schools being right there together. Those 6 schools in the southwestern part of the state all being right there together kind of force everything else.

Lake is sitting west of Union therefore Lake will be with Leake and Velma. Union will be with Bay Springs and Newton maybe

Another possible scenario:

Wilkinson Co

Amite Co

Loyd Star

Bogue Chitto

West Lincoln

Enterprise Lincoln

East Marion

Mize

North Forrest

Perry Central

Heidelberg

Bay Springs

Clarkdale

Enterprise Clarke

Newton

Kemper County

Puckett

Pelahatchie

Union

Leake County

Lake

This scenario would have Velma Jackson and Philadelphia both in the north, Union and Kemper County in the south.

Another scenario:

Wilkinson Co

Amite Co

Loyd Star

West Lincoln

Enterprise Lincoln

Bogue Chitto

East Marion

Richton

North Forrest

Perry Central

Mize

Puckett

Pelahatchie

Lake

Velma Jackson

Clarkdale

Enterprise Clarke

Bay Springs

Heidelberg

Newton

This would have Union, Leake County, Philadelphia, and Kemper in a 4 team region in 2A north. All 4 teams would make the playoffs. The south would also have one 4 team region with Velma, Puckett Pelahatchie, and Lake. I added Richton instead of Taylorsville because I am assuming they would be the next largest 1A. I don’t think Tville will be 2A if they have lost as many students as has been rumored.

Walnut should be 2A in the north do Philly and Kemper makes it 21 north, 20 south unless Tville gets in.
