Too Early 7A Region 4 Predictions

A lot of unknowns going into this year. 

 

Gulfport and OS - Losing a lot of talented seniors

Biloxi- New Head Coach and Mostly new staff from what I understand

Harrison Central- New Head Coach, not sure about the rest of the staff

St. Martin- New Offensive Coordinator and returning a lot of experience

D'iberville- Returning a lot of young players who will be another year old and more experienced

 

Here's my best guess.

 

1. Ocean Springs

2. Gulfport

3. Harrison Central

4. St. Martin

5. D'iberville

6. Biloxi

 

I really think 3-6 will be a toss up, so that's just wishful thinking.

OS and Gpt will always replace talent with talent and both have good coaching staffs.

Biloxi I believe will be solid with the new guy

Harrison Central I could be wrong on but I think the kids will respond to the track guy

D'ville will surprise people and may take 4 seed.

St. Martin-are you kidding me??? They will be 0-fer AGAIN. Your new Offensive coordinator has only been a defensive guy. Offense wasn't the problem. The dang defense was terrible giving up and average of 41 I think per game.

I agree with most of this. St. Martin is going to struggle again I believe. While I hear good things about Lala, he has exclusively been a defense only coach so coming in as OC, I think will bring a lot of challenges early on. I also wonder how much freedom Ty is going to give him. From what I gathered, Ty was the play caller last year and the OC was just a title only. So will it be Lala or Ty calling plays?

SMHS was just very young on defense. I expect to see some improvement there. As far as the OC, a good coach is a good coach. I don't think it matters what side of the ball.

Ty will call the plays GUARANTEED. The OC title is for pay purposes on paper. We will see how their new offense works out but I promise Ty will call it regardless.

You're correct with some youth on defense that had to play but to give up 40 a game points also at other issues also. They were the lowest scoring(140) in 7A and gave up the most in 7A(400) so some of that may be attributed to youth but they couldn't stop a swinging door on defense the games I watched so I point to scheme also. Makes a difference what side of the ball you've coached if you are suddenly vaulted to coordinator. I agree a good coach is a good coach but a lot goes into offensive scheme, calls, and adjustments. I hope for the kids sakes it improves. They deserve better than what they're getting now.

So what's the scoop on d'Iberville?  Are they going to be bad again this year or will they be improved?  I honestly thought they would give us more of a game last year.  We'll obviously get them at home this year, but I'm curious to see if there will be an improvement there or if it'll be more of the same.  I guess we were just a buzzsaw for them last year, but generally speaking they give us a good game.

I think they return a decent amount of talent. Defensively I believe they were somewhat young last year. d'Iberville is not getting the transfers in like they used to and I think the community talent pool is not as deep as it was 10-15 years ago. They should be more improved and I expect them to be fighting for a playoff spot.

That'll be one heck of a turnaround if they can get into playoff contention.  Under normal circumstances or how they were under Larry Dolan or before, you could pick them to beat Harrison Central and St. Martin like a drum and that would have been a surefire lock.  I'd like to think they'll be better than Harrison Central and St. Martin, but who knows.

You are correct maroontide06. Dolan had them ready every game. Can't say the same for now. I think St. Martin will keep it much closer than that. I expect St. Martin to keep it close and maybe even win a district game or two. How has D'ville improved their defense?

Runningman, you have difficulty escaping bad football.  From Long Beach to St. Martin, it went from bad to worse.  Why don't you try getting behind Ocean Springs or someone like that?  I mean it couldn't hurt could it?  Isn't Ocean Springs over in that same neck of the woods?
