Kevin Gandy former longtime Assistant at WC also served as HC during 2020 the Covid year. He moved on to Meridian as OC when WC hired Coach Hankins . Is the new HC at NE Lauderdale. Kevin Gandy had a long tenure at WC under Coach Marcus Boyles and then Coach Todd Mangum winning multiple State Championships with both coaches.

I;m thrilled for Kat . I have no doubt he will have those players buying what he is selling in no time.

He was flat out done wrong by the liar in chief at WC. Hell he lied to all of us and then ran away and hid. He had no intention of letting anyone associated with Marcus hang around,

Glad for him but the abyss that rules the Laudable County School District will not let him succeed. The county football teams have withered on a vine for decades with the exception of the golden child school, West Lauderdale, where they have had moderate success throughout the years but save one year about twenty years ago, have never sniffed a State Championship. The same school that wasted Austin Davis’ talent by running the Ga. Southern double wingback offense that runs the ball 90% of the time.

Good luck to him but we have seen this same thing with hiring coaches. Rinse, Dry, Rinse and repeat.

If Clarkdale can win and be competitive, anybody in the district can. Also, I wouldn’t call WL’s success “moderate” over the last few years. In 4A the only teams I can think of that have won more than them the last 5 years are Louisville, Poplarville, and maybe Itawamba. At some point, Northeast Lauderdale administration has to look at the mirror and realize they’re the problem.

They averaged dang near 40 points a game when Austin Davis was running that offense hahaha

Yes, WL did well in the regular season. The problem was having a one dimensional offense and getting into the playoffs. Then all of a sudden you come up against a defense that stops the run and now you are in peril because you have not been throwing the ball all year.
With Davis at QB, they should have been a pass first run second offense. Had they done so, I think they would have won at least one maybe two state championships.

Poplarville has had a good run as well but again being one dimensional will eventually bite you in the playoffs. They have a great running attack but it has failed them at some point in the playoffs every year.

Clarkdale finally hired a competent coach and he painstakingly built a good program but after he turned the corner in his third and fourth seasons, their administration saw fit to run him off. The current coach has benefited from his work but the question remains if he can sustain it going forward.

NEL and SEL have generally been subpar football programs for decades. Part of it lies with each school’s administrators and part of it lies with LCSD. Obviously schools are there for academic purposes but there has been lukewarm commitment to football in Lauderdale County for decades.

I would like to see that change but the football track record has been poor overall for Lauderdale County with the exception of WL.

We will see how it plays out.
