Dawg83 Posted January 19, 2024 Share Posted January 19, 2024 I get that Penny is a Memphis legend and supposedly was going to be this unreal recruiter but at the end of the day he was just a high school coach before Memphis hired him. So yeah, maybe the wiser thing to do was hire someone with actual college coaching experience. I dunno, Memphis is still having a good year. I think the Calipari era set such high standards that Memphis has been chasing ever since but haven’t lived up to. And maybe that’s just a lot harder to replicate than most thought. Men’s college basketball amazes me sometimes with how many really good coaches there at small mid-majors while bigger schools just roll with the same mediocre guys because they recruit well.
