I saw on the website today it was a skeleton coaching staff with him and 3 other assistants. Didn’t see Lorenzo or Ty listed on staff. Those were the 2 I was told was let go

Vott
Seth Smith resigns. Hopefully someone is hired that can recruit the area very well. Too much talent in the Hattiesburg and Pearl river co areas to not be competing for championships

I think he was too stuck in his ways recruiting certain types of players instead of going for guys that could help you win. I was told he was more focused on high character guys with minimal baggage who maybe were not as talented which at the college game, especially in JUCO, will get you beat. I think he recruited too safe in a lot of ways.
maroontide06
I’m surprised they didn’t let him finish out the season, but I reckon Avalon had a decision to make and wanted to start early before the carousel got in full swing. I believe they can get someone to turn it around quickly because that’s what Avalon will want.

maroontide06 Posted yesterday at 03:44 PM Share Posted yesterday at 03:44 PM Why do they want to go the high school route again? This isn't a high school.

I respect him for sticking to his beliefs if if true.

This is a hot bed for talent and usually you see the athletes here in Pearl River County go elsewhere. The only ones you see from this area that go to The River are usually ones that want to stay close to home, which is fine, but whoever the next coach is needs to invest in spending time recruiting the area. There's too much talent here to let it slip through the cracks and not do anything about it.

Is there not an established successful JUCO coach they can go after? I'd be curious to know what checks the boxes for them in Pennock, to be honest. positiveyard33
Pennock might be a high school coach, but I think we all see he knows how to recruit.

I highly doubt they could entice the HFC from Northwest, Co-Lin, Hinds, Jones, or MGCCC to come there. Itawamba, Holmes and ECCC may be ones to keep an eye on. but are they worth bringing in? Other than that, I feel like you are kind of boxed in with who you can get. Pennock is brash and cocky enough to think he can do it. No pun intended but I think he is a good recruiter and he knows the area. His personality is much more adaptable to the collegiate level than I thought Seth Smith's was. He has some college experience from his time at USM. I could see it honestly, especially if the pay is close to what he is getting from Gulfport. I will say this, I do NOT see him going if he was offered the job, but I would not be surprised if he did.

This would be a good fit for an assistant from a successful JUCO like EMCC Hinds or Northwest. A wannabe head coach has got to get an opportunity somewhere and PRCC while in a little bit of a lull right now could certainly get back to being in the JUCO top 25 on a consistent basis. It definitely would be a good fit. Personally, if I was PRCC - I would go after Webster at ECCC. He is a young, hungry coach that has done a relatively good job of recruiting to a place that traditionally has been tough to recruit to. He has had some real success there as well (led them to State Title game in 2024.) At PRCC, he would have more resources to lure in talent and a better overall place to live.
