6A North Contenders and Pretenders

It’s obviously a 4 team pick between Warren Central, South Panola, Lake Cormorant and Grenada. Beginning of the season I would’ve said Warren Central and if they play a complete game I’d still go with them but all four are capable. If Grenada wants to return to the state championship game their secondary is going to have to wake up.

ETA: I actually forgot about Ridgeland. They’re a team that could cause some problems in the playoffs. This year in the north is surely more competitive than it was last year.

It’s Warren Central’s to lose

I haven’t seen Warren Central play but 1-6A is not impressive at all. Here’s my assessment of 1-6A competitors.

I expected Grenada to fall off a bit defensively but they are severely handicapped in the secondary and then Lake Cormorant came in and crammed it down our throat Friday night on the ground. In regards to the deficiency in the secondary it is wild considering we returned most of our starters there. Defensively we play the same 11 players pretty much the entire game without substitution as if it’s 1975 so it is going to be hard to create depth in the future or at least not be restricted severely when injuries occur (which is a given). We aren’t creating any depth for ourself throughout the season and then complaining about not having depth. Offensively, Grenada is really good but when you have to score 35 a game to win that’s hard to do in the playoffs.

South Panola is in almost the same position defensively and they struggle with any one who has a decent scheme and athletes offensively. To say it plainly, they aren’t really good on defense AT ALL.

Lake Cormorant is head and shoulders the most athletically talented team in 1-6A. They have athletes everywhere on the field (go look how many kids they have with offers) however they are completely one dimensional offensively and not real discipline. I believe their QB is a freshman and if they could complete a pass it would be trouble for everyone.

Despite the fact that Grenada has to travel in the 1st round, I see a rematch with South Panola in round 2

Screen is about right for 1-6A because their defenses stop about as much a screen does. Now offensively it’s a different story. Go look at the scores.

Here's the overall scoring for the "5" favorites so far:

Region 1

Grenada 299-160

South Panola 289-218

Lake Cormorant 265-153

Region 2

Ridgeland 348-183

Warren Central 281-173

Based off of this information Grenada, Lake Cormorant, Ridgeland, & Warren Central can all score and they all pretty much have fair defenses.  South Panola can score, but they are the only one so far that has eclipsed 200 points allowed so they aren't as good defensively as the rest.  Based solely off of this information South Panola looks like the odd man out.  I also realize there are a whole lot more factors to consider as well.

seems doubtful for Grenada at Ridgeland then.  probably still a good game though. the winner then would go to south panola.  the question in the other bracket then is can lake cormorant play with warren central at warren central in round 2. I know kinda who i think makes the north 6A final.   thoughts?

I believe north half is Grenada and Warren Central again. Repeat from last year. Michael Fair is to good of a coach to not do what it takes to fix the defense.
