David
Most of the favorites, including Starkville, Tupelo, and Oak Grove have a little bit of a break this week, giving us a chance to watch and evaluate some of their challengers. Down south, the most interesting and important game involves undefeated Madison Central down on the Coast to face unbeaten Gulfport. My personal favorite matchup is NW Rankin hosting Ocean Springs. Winners of these two games just might be considered as competitors for the Warriors of O.G. Add your own compelling games and how they will play out. 7A is my favorite, but feel free to go elsewhere. NoWammies
Up north in the higher classifications there really isn’t any compelling games Friday night. I guess the biggest one would be Oxford/Grenada. Will be interesting to see how Grenada bounces back after losing to Winona. Oxford has to find a way to put a full 4 quarters together. They’ve started slow in both their first two games. Another game will be can West Point get that first win of the year against a tough Noxubee County team. The game that interest me the most that I’ll be watching is Choctaw County against Ripley. Choctaw County will be getting their first big test after 2 blowout wins and they’ll be facing a 2-0 Ripley team that has looked very impressive so far. He broke the record for longest kick in Ripley history with a 49 yarder against Charleston.
David
Just bumping this topic to the top and hoping to get one of those shy NW Rankin fans to give us the scoop on how they’re undefeated so far and how they will beat Ocean Springs up there this week. I think this is one game, along with Gulfport/Madison Central, that will push the winner into the meat of their season with momentum and a good chance for the playoffs. Why is it Rankin and how does it happen. Why is it Gulfport over Madison, and how does that happen? It’s already Thursday, let’s figure this out. coastfootballfanman
I think Ocean Springs has a chance to win this thing. The defense is going to keep it close and the offense found itself last week. Obviously seeing Scotlandville I do not think they are very good but, good football teams dominate bad ones and that was what Ocean Springs did. I think the Ocean Springs offense continues to improve and wins this one in a 24-14 type of fashion. Madison is hard to get a read on. Played close with Ocean Springs coming down to the last few minutes but turned around and used a big 2nd quarter to handle what some saw as a favorite in 7A in Brandon. Gulfport has not beaten anyone overly impressive. They crushed Gautier who I was not very high on this year and Vancleave who I do not see being very good overall this year either. I think Madison is more battle tested at this point and wins it in a 28-17 type of fashion.

I thought Choctaw County did a poor job of utilizing Cunningham all night as he was taken out on Offense about every other play. Ripley didn't do anything special in coverage and once they stuffed the Chargers run game, they forced Choctaw to throw long and that resulted in 2 INT's. Neither of the 2 picks was in the direction of a single covered Cunningham either. Puzzling to say the least but this Ripley team never quits. Winona should defeat choctaw county so were they overlooking Ripley last night?
