This is an interesting job. It seems like PCS should be really good in football and baseball year-in, year-out. The school is surrounded by Hattiesburg, Oak Grove, Purvis, and other communities with top-notch talent that PCS should be able to attract. It isn't situated that differently from MRA in that regard. But PCS is seldom competitive.

The headmaster is just a figure head.  The money people run that school. That is why they can't keep a coach.

I will agree with this. That is why we left Prep and JA. Too many people try to play politics so I could imagine PCS being in the same situation

Cant say that about their basketball teams though. Especially girls basketball

It’s a great equation for a solid gig. Hattiesburg talent, and a very good track program. It seems like forever ago that they looked outstanding with Joey Hawkins, who is honestly the only coach to be consistently successful there

Don't think this is a fair comparison, MRA has been know to "skirt" the rules on many occasions

PCS had a really good receiver from Alabama that came with the coach they had last year. The kid left before the season ended. My guess is that there was some rule skirting going on in that instance. I don't know the dynamics within the school regarding recruiting. It could be that the controlling families/parents/administration would prefer to lose with their own kids than be competitive. Maybe that had something to do with their newly-hired coach leaving after less than a year on the job. But I really don't know.

Regarding MRA, the school has been active in the transfer portal since the 1980s. But most of its numbers/talent are due to its location. The only point I was trying to make is that PCS also has a good location that seems like it should allow it to at least occasionally be competitive with the Jackson schools. I can only remember one year it was competitive though - Woullard's senior year.

Hawkins used to get PCS consistently to the Semifinals of AAA Division I even before Woullard got there. Like four years in a row, his first season was I believe the only year that eh didnt make it to the semifinal game, before the new playoff system where everybody made the playoffs came in, (2015), I think. Before that, PCS never even made it to the playoffs in football. Coach Carr was a surprise hire, and I believe they wanted Caldwell first.

Bringing up MRA, the biggest asset that school has is their location. Especially with the attrition of the quality of the Jackson area, we are seeing much more families leave Jackson, and moving close to Madison and Flowood, in-turn, more students at Prep, Hartfield, and MRA versus JA etc. While it is true that Hattiesburg is a great location, and should be good for football, the fact that they have so many football powerhouses in the area really hurt that. However, PCS has always been strong in girl's sports and especially the track and cross country.
