greenandgoldhawk
Baldwyn, Velma Jackson, East Marion, Sacred Heart, Enterprise-Lincoln, Leland, and Myrtle are heading to 2A. Riverside, Ingomar, Leflore County, West Lincoln, Bogue Chitto, Calhoun City, Richton, and Sebastopol are coming to 1A for the next two years. The MHSAA has decided to keep the 8 regions instead of 4. This year the teams in each regions are different for all sports. Ingomar does not play football and the state champs are once again heading back up to 2A. Who do you see in your top 5, top 10 or top contenders for next year? Chunky6617
As far as the south is concerned, I have no clue. Taylorsville will have one more good season, but won’t be quite as good as they were this season. I bet you that you will not see them play the same kind of schedule that they played the last 2 years. Stringer will be improved, and could be a dark horse. Rebel Bert
Taylorsville, Simmons, Lumberton, and Sebastopol in the South. Maybe Bogue Chitto.

They still have some good players returning, but depth will be even worse next season than it was this season. They should compete for the district. pancho
outside of Calhoun City, west lowndes and maybe biggersville, there isn't much in north 1A

Then they won't play Simpson or West Lauderdale next year. Probably a few 2A schools.

Rebel Bert
4 Regions for 1A is appropriate just a dumb move to 8 Regions. Then again there are only 10 1A schools south I-20. Top 3 or 4 Classes should be at 24/32 split then dive the remaining numbers by 3/4 classes.

After further thought: 7A 24 or 25 as is now 6A 24 5A 24 4A 24 3A 48 2A 48 1A 48 And even then 4 Regions are better in 1A.

Most of them have the student body to field a team. If schools like mcadams, dexter (when opened), ray brooks (when opened) who are and had been among the smallest of the 1A fielded football teams, then the rest honestly could too. Obviously there are things such as having a place to play and insurances among the kids to consider. However northeast MS school communitites does tends to support their schools well in the sports they do play.

For some reason Hwy 82 seems to be that dividing line in 1A for the past recent years as far as north and south schools. A few teams tend to be moved north based off where they have created the region 2 in a 4 region class, or where they have created region 4 in a 8 region class. Its has always been do they pull from the Delta area, the GTA area, or the north central MS area. It looks like this year they chose the north central MS area and then just grabbed two from the Delta area.

greenandgoldhawk
Shaw has a very talented 8th grade group that won its middle school conference and championship mostly in dominating fashion . 1 close contest with Northside in a seasonal matchup. Those soon to be 9th graders will likely get a good amount of exposure this upcoming year and will likely be a problem a few years for now. As for this year, they probably will look similar as they have for the past couple of years. Not too many seniors so the returning players will have some growth. AirRaidGuru
Ethel High School has made a strong hire in bringing Junior Graham back to lead the program. As an alumnus of the school, his return is poised to have a significant impact. With his leadership and vision, he is expected to steer the program in the right direction. It wouldn't be surprising to see him make a considerable impression and generate success at Ethel in the near future.
CentralMSPirate
Arrr, gather 'round, ye landlubbers, and let me spin ye a tale o’ glory! The Nanih Waiya Football crew be hoistin' the sails once more, bound for the top o' Mississippi 1A like a true band o’ gridiron marauders! With their ironclad defense and cannon-blast offense, they be ready to plunder victory from any scallywags who dare cross their path. This ain’t no fluke, matey—these warriors be forged in tradition, grit, and a fire that don’t flicker. Mark me words, the Warriors be settin’ course straight fer the crown, and they won’t be stoppin’ ‘til they raise it high above the rest, loud as a cannon boom and proud as any pirate flyin’ the Jolly Roger!
