Just got home from the Stringer jamboree. Several teams played, some I was impressed with, others I wasn’t. Magee and NE Jones was competitive, both offenses seemed to move the ball against the defense. Richton and seminary was competitive. Early on richton was getting the better of seminary but seminary was able to move the ball a little better later in their game. I would say they were pretty evenly matched. Stringer and richland was pretty much all offense. Both offenses moved the ball. Collins looked very much improved. Either Collins is gonna be much improved or clarkdale lost a lot from last years team. Or maybe they still have some baseball players out. Cause from the little bit I got to see, Collins looked better.

Mize and Bay Springs play tomorrow at the Stringer jamboree. JV at 6, Varsity at 7

Scott central and Velma Jackson…. Bet Velma gives Scott central a good whooping in that one this time.

2A South will be wide open and very competitive next season. Pretty excited about it. Scott Central, Raleigh, and Bay Springs all lost a lot of talent from last season but their JV was really good too. They will still be good next season. Mize is going to be good next season, and should be good for a few years. Collins should eventually get back to being competitive as well. Philadelphia always has athletes and should be competitive.

Didn’t realize they were 6-6. Their sophomore class is really good. They will be good this season, and compete for south state in 2024.

Quitman is not a dark horse. They were good last year and will be good for another couple years as well.

Who is playing who, where at, and what time? Mize is playing Bay Springs Thursday May 18th at the Stringer jamboree. JV at 6, Varsity at 7. I think both games should be pretty decent. Good test for us.

It would be a good hire if it happened

It’s actually closer to how it used to be now. Mize has always been 80-85% white. Our problem was people from Magee and Taylorsville sending their DAUGHTERS to Mize but their sons were allowed to stay or go to Simpson Academy. We seem to have gotten that problem fixed. Mize had a solid squad last year, we will this year as well and we got some athletes coming up from junior high as well.

That’s right. Cause they don’t pay crap. That’s the only downside to being in a good school district with really good grades. A lot of teachers want to teach in smith county so they are willing to take less money to come here. You can go to an underperforming school district and get wayyyyyy more money in salary.

Well the best small school staff is at Mize. Of course I am being totally biased

Brady has been looking for other jobs the last few years dude. Coaches want to better themselves. If west jones will hire him, he’s gone. And he will do a great job there.

There’s no way to even know this. I mean… this is basically just asking “who is your favorite team”? Some smaller schools are lucky to even have 4 coaches on their staff.

That’s why I didn’t think he would be in the mix. Unless he just wants to get back into coaching. He wasn’t making much money at Taylorsville. Smith County schools don’t pay worth a crap.

I doubt jay is in the mix. I’m curious what kind of hire they are going to make if Bud Blackledge plans on staying. Seems like and offensive head coach wouldn’t be a front runner if that’s the case.

I will be surprised if Dan Brady doesn’t get this job. If I had to guess, I would say he wants the job, and I would be surprised if West Jones didn’t have mutual interest. It would be a good fit, and I do not think Brady will run the wing at West Jones even though it would be just as successful there as it would anywhere else. Brady has been in the process of getting out of the wing t last year at Bay Springs. Their JV ran a spread offense, and I’m sure his plan was for that to be their offense once they were varsity players. Either way, Brady will take the WJ job if offered .

Mize will be pretty good this year, and are currently 6-0. But we are very very young. Started 4 junior high kids Saturday against Puckett and won 12-2. In about 3 years they are going to be almost unstoppable

yeah that’s football. And you lost. If this and if that and if this and that…. That’s football. Enterprise was good, but nowhere near the top of 3A.

Enteprise was the 3rd best team in the region that got swept in the first round of the playoffs. Raleigh, Hazlehurst, Noxubee, and Amory would have all destroyed enterprise by as many points as they wanted to. We get that you are a rabid fan… but you just don’t deal with reality. Your fandom blinds you from reality

Allowing boys and girls to use the same bathroom would definitely be a deal breaker for me. And for most other people as well

there is more to a coach wanting to be at a school than just football. Bay springs and Heidelberg I think are the only two schools still forcing everybody to wear masks. And at one point they were even considering having gender neutral bathrooms. That will make any coach want to leave. Not saying that’s why Brady would leave. I have no clue. But I promise you there are a TON of coaches who will never go to Bay Springs because of stuff like that
