There are some smaller school coaches that may be good for this job. West Jones has only had three head coaches so it is obviously a place that someone can settle into if they do a good job. Higdon at Raleigh has proven he can win for sure. He knows how to run a hard nose, physical offense that would do well anywhere. Evans at Seminary has proven he can get a team in the hunt. Won championships at Taylorsville and competing at Seminary. Offensive guy that knows how to score points. Loy at Wesson turned a program around and has had them winning with average talent. Offensive guy that always has put up a lot of points. Granger at Sumrall did a good job but hasn’t been a head coach long enough to prove himself. Bay Springs guy hasn’t been a head coach long either. May need a few more years.

How does Wesson not get any respect? They are dropping into 2A after competing well in 3A. They return some very talented players. Loyd Star is in the top 10 and there is a very good chance they wont win their district… No doubt Heidelberg is #1. I agree with most of that but the last four are questionable for sure.

Heidelberg is team to beat. That is obvious. Scott Central, Enterprise-Clarke, Wesson, Mize, Bay Springs, Loyd Star maybe Perry Central could all be in the hunt in the South. Anything can happen. Should be an exciting year for 2A.

Mize was a good win. That is the only team Loyd Star beat with a winning record last season. Loyd Star is a baseball school. They are not serious about football.

It may be competitive this year but I haven’t seen Loyd Star come close to Wesson in the past five years or maybe more. The clock is running after halftime every year. Wesson looked strong in the spring game so I don’t expect it to be any different this year in that game.

2A Wesson also dropping into 2A. They will factor into the south also. I would say they are a pre season top 10 in 2A.

Will Loy threw for 10,000 yards and 115 TD. Was fun to watch that offense at Wesson when he was rolling.

They put the ball on the ground because Wesson DLine was in the backfield knocking heads loose. Nobody but the fullback had much of a game. The QB got rocked all night. I do think that Mize is a good team and will make a run in 2A. They just might be in the final four in the south come November. Good luck to them.

Wesson had their way on the line of scrimmage on both sides of ball. Mize busted a few dives but could not out run Wesson speed. QB from Wesson can spin it and Mize had no answer for it. Wesson turned it over 4 times as well or they may have won by 30. Mize had no where near 400 yards offense. They didn’t score until mid fourth quarter. Game was dominated by Wesson but they still need to play better to compete in 3A south. They are definitely a better team than they were last year though.

Wesson has two that split time. Both are pretty good. Cole Gipson 2025 and Wyatt Garrett 2025. Both can spin it and good size kids. 6’2ish. Play in a very aggressive offense that throws it around.
