The first round is done, no Moore or any other MS players drafted.

Kiffin fires Clements as O-line coach
rebmus replied to pancho's topic in Mississippi College Sports
Great question, and who knows for sure. Most in Oxford seem to think Kiffin lets Lebby do almost all play calling but does step in a small % of times. -
Falcons go with Kyle Pitts instead of a QB, Matt Ryan will sleep better tonight. I expected them to pick a QB, I like this pick better than going after a QB right now. It will be interesting to see how Pitts does in the NFL, he was a monster on the field in college. Julio Jones and Pitts at TE, Ryan will be living a QB dream.

The first two picks were as expected. #3, San Fran, picked Trey Lance. Lance was predicted mostly at #8 while San Fran was predicted mostly to pick Mac Jones at #3. Will Atlanta pick Jones now or stick with the predicted Fields?

Kiffin fires Clements as O-line coach

Satch- I agree. The HC is the one in charge so he gets to make all decisions. Pancho- I've heard a few rumors but the most repeated (and the one that makes the most sense) is what you said. Disagreements on recruits/development along with Clements told Kiffin to tell the recruit himself. If that last part is true, it's no wonder Kiffin fired Clements. One of the quickest ways to get fired is to tell your boss "Nah, you do it yourself." As far as spilling over to Lebby, I stand by it doesn't really matter most likely. Lebby has a STRONG chance of getting a HC offer after this season anyway. -
I saw an article today predicting Moore to go late first round to Green Bay. Wherever Moore gets drafted, I hope it's to a well run team like Green Bay instead of to a team that will suck almost every year.

I was surprised, somewhat, that Lebby didn't get a good enough HC offer to leave this past season. IF the OM offense does as well as last year, I'll be very surprised if Lebby doesn't get a better offer. -
True, but it's a wait and see what happens. Win 2 vs USC next weekend, and this weekend won't matter too much in the hosting picks. USC is a better team than LSU. Is Ole Miss capable? Sure. Will they pull off a series win? Not if they keep playing like the past few weeks.
-
Yep. This weekend went from almost a disaster to a bad weekend. I'm not "excited" about the comeback, but I will say I like the team didn't quit and mounted that comeback from down 9-1. We'll see if that makes any momentum into next weekend's series.

The bullpen is an issue, obviously. Another thing that's been a concern for a while that few seem to mention, the errors. Maybe it's not as bad as it seems, but it sure seems like Ole Miss has a problem with errors. It's hard to complain about hitting when you look at stats. However, Ole Miss seems to hit VERY WELL at times driving the stats up while hitting like dookie in other games. IF the season ended today and I was asked if Ole Miss deserved to host a regional, it's very debatable and I lean towards no. Plenty of baseball left to play. Things have changed a lot since that opening weekend sweep of top 10 teams so maybe things will change back into OM's favor- we'll see. Arkansas/USC have already finished the weekend series- 2-1 Arkansas. MSU really needs to pick up the next 2 at Vandy to stay close to Arkansas. Ole Miss has all but killed their chances of a chance to win the West with these two losses to LSU.
-
You replied as I was typing, agreed on all of that.

Arkansas picked up a very nice road win at South Carolina tonight. Ole Miss- geesh. The errors came again for Ole Miss while LSU tried to give the game back but Ole Miss couldn't capitalize. Hog being out didn't help, but this is a home win that was needed at this point.

No idea A4L, I wasn't aware anyone got banned.

OM took an early lead but MSU was too much for the bullpen. 7-5 MSU today to take the series. Vandy took the series at UT to take the East lead, Arkansas still holds the West lead.

I only caught a few pieces of this game on the radio, and was able to listen to the 9th inning. Nikhazy with a complete game an 1 hitter against a very good MSU team, very impressive effort. The bats came alive today also, 9 runs against MSU is also impressive, don't forget Elko is out. I went with MSU takes 2 of 3 this weekend, and I'll stick with that.
-
I agree with almost everything you said, but not much on this part. The overall resume includes wins vs #3 Texas, #12 TCU, and #8 Texas Tech outside of Oxford. OM also picked up one win at home vs #1 Arkansas.
-
I think MSU takes 2 of 3 this weekend.

Arkansas is beatable, but VERY GOOD at taking advantage when others make mistakes. Ole Miss walked 17 batters today and HP 2 more batters, that's 19 "free baserunners" to Arkansas. Ole Miss also committed 2 errors (I've been harping on these errors this season, could be the difference between a really good or really great season). I'm surprised the score today was 18-14 and not 18-4. The scoreboard is all that matters- Arkansas won the series and Ole Miss lost. I do like the grit and no quit in this Ole Miss team. The SEC is just so strong this year, there's no telling who takes the East/West/Overall between Vandy/Arkansas/MSU/OM/Tennessee/South Carolina right now. Florida/Kentucky are also still well into the mix, Florida making a strong push wouldn't surprise me at all.
-
Arkansas takes the series 18-14 today. Arkansas now has a tie-breaker over both OM and MSU. OM travels to MSU next weekend for a battle to stay in second place in the West.
-
Ole Miss picked up game 2 tonight. Agreed, the winner of this series is likely the new #1... we'll see. I'm with you on MSU, I kept saying they're very well in the hunt... very strong team. This is a big part of why I'm high on Arkansas, sweeping in Starkville was a STONG move for them. If Arkansas adds in a series win at Oxford, I don't see any debate they're #1. IF Ole Miss wins tomorrow, last weekend's series loss is fresh in the polls which may keep Ole Miss from being #1 and I wouldn't try to argue for or against it.
-
UGA took game 3 today at Vandy to win the series 2-1. MSU took game two at Auburn to win the series, a chance for a sweep tomorrow. Arkansas took game 1 at Ole Miss today, game two underway now with Ole Miss leading in the 7th with Arkansas looking to mount another comeback. Arkansas will unseat Vandy at #1 with this road series win if they win tonight or tomorrow.
-
Vandy picks up game two over UGA 5-2. Bama won on the road at A&M. It's still early, but there is separation in the West between Arkansas/OM/MSU and the rest in the standings.
-
MSU picks up game one at Auburn 6-5. Impressive win, Auburn's record may be bad but they're no easy win by any means.
