  1. The reasoning for going back to 6A has to do more with the Choose Act and private schools. By separating the public and private schools it reduced the numbers to make it more practical for going back to 6A. The public and private schools can still play each other during the season but they will have separate playoffs. Research the Choose Act and how the state was paying students to transfer to private schools and the way AHSAA dealt with it by splitting public and private school playoffs. Many more private schools in AHSAA than in Mississippi. This eliminated the need for Competitive Balance for private schools. There are around 40 private school members of AHSAA. A few competed in the old 6A classification. Most were 5A and below. Also, AHSAA has a revenue sharing deal where they return money to member schools and they even have waived membership fees when revenue is high. I grew up in Mississippi and have been in Alabama several years. I keep of with both states.
