I played against Marcus Dupree his freshman and sophomore seasons. His freshman year, he only played defensive back and returned kicks. We beat them 34-6. Their 6 points was on his 100 yard kickoff return! Back then it was not a touchback if kick went in end zone. He fumbled the kick in the end zone, picked it up and smoked everyone right up the sideline. We did not break any long runs, because he would catch anyone that broke over 10 yards past line of scrimmage.
His sophomore year they were a much better team. It was our homecoming and we beat them 12-7. Their only score was a pass to the tight end. We hit him pretty good and he would lay down and they would take him out for a few plays. Then he would come back in to play. He did not like to get hit. I think he got better at taking hit his last two years. He definitely had exceptional speed and you had to keep him from breaking the line of scrimmage. We had some linebackers that would take your head off and they punished him all night.
Those were my junior and senior years, so I didn’t play against him his best two years.
