  1. Past hour
  2. You may be right, but I find that hard to believe. To begin with MHSAA schools aren't going to want a merger without a multiplier for the private schools. And I'm sure that's just one of many sticking points between the two that will be an issue.
  3. From the start of these rumors, I felt the same way. I do not really see what they specifically would benefit from in moving to MHSAA. Would they get more money from gates, etc.? I also do not see the MHSAA letting MRA, Prep, etc. compete in 3A with numbers and talent pool good enough to compete and win higher classifications.
  4. Then I question all MAIS especially Louisiana schools staying around. Its obvious they could be paired up with the SW Ms schools in Region play.
  5. I didn't think so because I remember video of the lines being drawn. They were not straight at all.
  6. I have not. I was mainly speaking to football, but you are right. It would be different numbers overall.

    MHSAA and MAIS

    North Jackson is not turf.
  8. I would say you have to keep it if your instituting it for all MSHAA private schools.
  9. You may have already done the math i don't know. You have to consider all MAIS schools since some don't play football as well.

    MHSAA and MAIS

You could not pay me enough to watch 8 man football. Be like watching Arena football. I tried watching arena ball when it was in Biloxi. After the first quarter I left. Just didnt feel like football. I think watching 8 man football would be the same way if I watched it.
  11. Justification above 5 classes.
  12. Will the multiplier go away?
  13. I believe the Jackson fields are artificial turf now. Getting there and getting out safely from the bad streets and gangs. Actually I have no clue about NW Jackson fields. Provine is artificial turf and you drive straight in from hwy 80 and out.
  14. I think so and maybe the 1A non football schools can play 8 man up north. Remember there are few MAIS schools in NE Ms.
  15. The big argument is there is no need for 7 classes with less teams. You would add roughly 50 more teams to MHSAA if MAIS merged which would add roughly 7 more teams per classification. So you would be back to more traditional 32 or so teams in 5A-7A instead of 24. So I think there is a better argument for staying 7 classes considering that point.
  16. Today
  17. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't most folks want to see a reduction in 11-man classifications? I'm not talking about what the MHSAA wants or doesn't want. If there's not a reduction in 11-man classifications, then what are we really accomplishing by merging the two associations together?
  18. If they did merge, I would be curious to see what the numbers would be for MRA, Prep, etc. I imagine they would be in the 5A range with the 1.5 multiplier added to their 9-11 numbers?
  19. I think that would make a ton of sense or if you wanted you could have 1A 11-man and 1A 8-man or something along those lines. Texas breaks it down as Division I 1A and Division II 1A. Division I is 11-man and Division II is their 6-man football.
  20. weeping and gnashing of teeth upcoming if the private schools have to go play at rosa fort, byers, byhalia, inner city jackson fields........boy howdy
  21. kosy and louisville may be heads and shoulders above all other 4A north teams this year. i'm not sure there are any others near as good as those 2.
  22. Kosciusko is another team that I would think would be very close. They are returning a lot from last years team.
  23. They are good and I agree that West is too low. There may be somebody that’s a little too high, but it should all work itself out in the wash. Out the gate we get #4 and #17 who just so happen to be the defending state champions of the largest classifications of the MHSAA and MAIS. I don’t recall if that’s ever happened before, but we should be battle tested after two weeks regardless of outcome.
  24. Best rankings I’ve seen. Chris and Brandon are the best. West Jones is a little low. They’ll be a top 8 team by mid October.
  25. However they want to do it. Right now we don’t have enough teams to justify having 7 classes. Adding the MAIS would make it a little better.
  26. Yesterday
  27. So would you make 1A all 8-man, then have 6 classes of 11-man?
