Rules interpretation

I need a quick answer and then I’ll remove this topic. 
When a player is ejected, as one of ours was halfway through the third quarter, when is he eligible to return? I was told that he would miss the entire next game, but the college rules involve only missing the first half of the next game. Is our high school rule different than that? Thanks for your response.

Yep. One game suspension. If he plays for a team that isn't going to make the playoffs,  he may have played his last high school game if it's not a 5a or 6a school. Regular season ends next week for 1a-4a schools

Okay, thanks. To be clear, he has to sit the entire game next week? Trying not to name the player, but we have a big, important game with Gulfport, and the player is the starting RB and safety. I’m sure people can figure it out. Of course he was the second player in the situation, and kicked the guy who was twisting his ankle. Just tough because of the timing and his usual good attitude.

This is the rule from the MissHSAA handbook for 2022-23. "Any student ejected for fighting or “flagrant” unsportsmanlike conduct (Example, but not limited to cursing an official, fan, etc.; spitting, obscene gestures) shall be ineligible for a minimum of the equivalent of next football game (1 game plus the fraction of a quarter that the player was ejected) or next track meet or the equivalent of two contests plus the fraction of the period that the participant was ejected in any other sport (2 games in basketball; 2 games in softball and baseball; 2 games in soccer."

Hey, thanks. But I’m still a little unsure. It say the fraction of the quarter when it happened, then a whole game. If a player leaves in the third quarter, he would be out for that fourth quarter, then three more quarters the next game? That scenario would allow him to return for the fourth quarter of the next game. Sorry to question your response, just trying to get the exact ruling. I’m sure that the coach already has his options, but trying to figure it out for myself.

He would be out the entire next game. Then the next game, he can come back after he sits the fraction of the time he was ejected. If he was ejected 4 minutes into the quarter, he would be able to come back in after the 4 minutes of the 1st quarter of the next game. So in this example, he sits the entire next game and 4 minutes of the game after.

Okay, thanks. Not what I was hoping to hear, but it makes sense. Again, I’m sure the coach is on top of his options. This one might have big repercussions.

And this does happen. Plus the MHSAA sometimes overturns it depending on the circumstances.

Probably not going to happen. The MHSAA Officials Handbook states that "Any official that does not report an ejection can be fined $100.00 and suspended if not paid within one (1) week." Most football officials don't have that kind of money to pay for failing to report an ejection. An no official wants to be suspended.
