The fact it is even being discussed and rumored that the middle school coach is the front runner tells me all I need to know about this job. It will be in open in another 2-4 years just like St. Martin.

Don't know what is going on in LB, if any of the statements are true, but SM is a different dynamic.  St. Martin has had relevant talent over the course of the years, but people were allowing the wrong things to happen with the program and turning their heads.  The new HC will do a great job, but he will need time to change the culture of SM, because from what I have heard nothing has been mandatory over the past seasons.

I am not comparing the situations of the programs. St. Martin was/is the better job and has the potential to be a really solid spot for a good football coach. No disrespect to Ty Smith, but nothing on his resume tells me he will do a good job. I do not know him personally, but he was never a coordinator while at Ocean Springs, I was told by several sources that he was essentially "non-renewed" by Pennock after one season on his staff (as the Tight Ends coach / Special Teams Coordinator) and comes to St. Martin as their coordinator and in his first and only year as a coordinator (to my knowledge) and averaged a whopping 16 points in region play and only 23 for the season. I will gladly eat crow if I'm wrong, but I do not see him lasting more than 4 years at St. Martin - and that may be generous.

I understand completely.  One might ask what direction is SM trying to go with the program?  Especially if higher qualifying candidates put in for the job.  No matter who would've taken this position, they were in for a lot of work to change the culture of the program.  Guess we will find out starting next August!

Agree 10 fold on that! I have long heard the culture of the program had gone sour. Heck back in 2018, St. Martin had as much talent as anyone on the coast in the last decade and finished fourth in the region. Had 10+ kids sign college scholarships that year. Ironically enough, I remember a year or two ago there were 4-5 former standouts from past St. Martin teams arrested on charges related to a gang shooting (according to media reports).

Long Beach and St. Martin have proven, unequivocally, they give zero damns about football.

Pathetic.

Sadly they just do not care about athletics. Its great that they focus on academics(rightfully so) but athletics get the shaft. Its obvious by their facilities that they do not care one bit.

I wouldn't say that about all their athletic programs, Pavlus has done well in basketball, and baseball was pretty good 2 years ago. Facilities not bad, turf field,  nice new fieldhouse, one of the best gyms on the coast, greg williams field is nice........beautiful school.....(thanks to Katrina) just the choice to head football program raises an eyebrow, again a Kanode hire that will fail.
