Matt
Recap from last week is, We're on to Goula.... Warriors get back on track in my opinion against Goula! 28-7 dville. Go Warriors!
Archer
Pascagoula is a program in turmoil. The season is over because they are not beating either of the next two opponents which will eliminate them from the playoffs. And Parnell has been in concussion protocol and may not be available -- not that it really matters because the defense is incapable of stopping the run or pass. Warriors roll. It's time for a serious evaluation of the Pascagoula football program, a program which has been losing -- 24-39 since the start of the 2016 season -- far more than winning. With a new AD (and soon to be Superintendent), the administration must decide whether it is serious about competing at high level.

Every 2 years when its time for reclassification, Goula is always on that 5a-6a border. They do pretty well when they move down to the 5a level but struggle at the 6a level. I figured with the type of athletes Goula has they could hold their own in region 4 6a. Had Goula stayed 5a this season would they still be struggling? Had they lost that game in Waynesboro (which was very likely), no playoffs.
Tiburon
I see the Warriors rebounding and putting a thumping on Pascagoula.
David
Like the rest of you, I look for d’Iberville to respond and show their stuff. I would suggest that they figure out some way to get a pass offense going to keep d lines from crowding the middle and shooting gaps like Ocean Springs did. Loser of this one is completely out of the title race, and might have to worry about getting into the playoffs.
coastfootballfanman
I see no reason d'Iberville does not win this game. Especially if the Panthers are without Parnell. Offensively, the Panthers appear to be pretty good, but also inconsistent ( I noted 4-5 different times they drove down into Gulfport territory and came away with zero points when watching replay online). Defensively, they do not look very good at all. Do not tackle well, not great in coverage. Not sure what the solution is for Pascagoula. You can see it watching them the potential to be really good is there. They just stall out at times offensively and cannot seem to get off the field defensively. It's quite obvious what the solution is but I'll refrain from being overly explicit and harsh.

LOL I think I know where you are going. You know the situation a lot better than I do. I can only speak based off of what I have seen on the field. swamppanther
Its looking pretty bleak in Pascagoula, which is sad because there is a good bit of talent. Hate to say, but it has little to do with the jump to 6A, they weren't able to win the 5A games on the schedule and probably would have been dealt a blow by Moss Point as well. Hasn't been much consistent success with this program since Fant left as OC. Sims is a fancy talker but the kids aren't buying what he's selling anymore. Coach Sims is a great person and a good coach. However, I think him being too nice, especially to his staff, is going to be his downfall. They really have too much talent to not have at least 3 wins this year. I have watched them play 3 times this year and it’s obvious the strength and conditioning program ain’t cutting it. They struggle once they get inside the red zone. They don’t tackle well on defense. They aren’t the only high school I’ve saw do this but they have to burn timeouts coming out of timeouts cause they can’t get a play call in, which is crazy to me. It’s gonna take a major overhaul on staff to get the job done. Last year with forfeits and a few lucky bounces going their way and them winning district and making it to south state, it put a bandaid on a bullet hole. I'm torn because I sort of agree with most of this. Coach Sims is a tremendous man and coach. He has brought the program up way high from where it was when I played (mid-2000's) and even a few years before that. He helped make Pascagoula relevant again and I am thankful for that. However, I think he has softened up over time since coming to Goula. His teams still play hard, I just don't see the physical edge and crispness that were there the first 5-6 years. I do believe we have some great assistant coaches on staff that will are a great asset for the team and community. Having Larry Sisson come on as QB coach has been great for us. It's hard because I see where things have faltered and gone wrong, but I also see how far his leadership has brought us from what we were and if you know this program, you know from basically 1990-2011, we were average at best and not a team many feared. A few seasons here and there we were a threat but consistency wasn't something Pascagoula was known for in football for about 20 years or so. I agree that there are definitely some quality assistants on staff. There have been rumblings in the stands and on social media. Some of it warranted and some of it just ridiculous. I almost responded to a comment about the coaches allegedly not caring about the kids and stopping them from getting recruited. Just nonsense. I hope they get it turned around cause they got enough talent to compete with anybody
Archer
I would want my son playing for Lewis Sims. His character is above reproach. He’s probably too good of a man to be a great football coach in the context of being the S.O.B. it takes to fire incompetent assistants and make other ruthless decisions. I agree with the other poster who questioned his misguided loyalty to certain assistants (particularly the coordinators post Fant and Coleman). He’d probably admit to not being the same coach he was 10 years ago — most notably the softer, less physical practice habits/approaches. Obviously, the biggest problem has been the defensive coaching for several years now. He addressed the deficiencies on the offensive staff for the better only to have the defensive side handicap him, which is somewhat astonishing given Sims’ background in defense. Again, misplaced loyalty to a coordinator who was demoted at East Central — during the season, for that matter — for bad results. I’ve thought for the last several years that his weak coaching staffs would be his downfall but so far he’s survived based on the first half of his tenure and indifference and hesitation from the administration to fire a head coach so revered in the community. However, there are soon to be two new sheriffs above him so the credit may be used up.

Big up front but get pushed around a lot. Or get gassed after a few plays. Those are off-season fixes. I actually would’ve loved if Sims would’ve taken the AD job

As far as Friday night. I have not been able to make games like I have in years passed due to work having me on the road a good bit here lately. I have gotten to watch the replays on my Roku and youtube. If we can clean up red-zone miscues, we could be really, really good. Even without Parnell, we drove down into Gulfport plus territory several times with zero points to show for it. If we capitalize on just a few, its a different ball game. Defense HAS to step up in a big way. If the offense can clean up its miscues, I think they can move the ball. Especially if Parnell is back. I think it will be a great football game. Hoping the Panthers can shock some people Friday! Edited October 7, 2021 by GoulaEagle05

They moved the ball well as you stated but bogged down inside the red zone.I could be wrong but it’s like the defense has no identity. If Parnell is back this week, it wouldn’t surprise me if they kept it closer than expected. Next week too. I’ll be at East Central vs Picayune this week and then at Goula next week to watch them play Ocean Springs.

(insert whichever phase of football) is a familiar refrain the last several years. Coach Sims offered that excuse ad nauseum at the Friday breakfasts. Many losing teams are a few plays/blocks/tackles away from being on the other side of the scoreboard. However, winning football is a product of detailed-oriented execution.
