When put on the scale and weighed some of the old rocks were tarnished but they pressed down hard on it. In contrast some of the bright sparkly ones barely moved the needle. There will be another weigh in this Friday. 1. Wayne County- It goes on. WC won a game. Keep throwing it to #12 . It may not be complete every time but the majority of the time sets up a red zone opportunity. Coach Hankins couldn’t contain his emotion after the game and he was swamped by the players in the locker room. That victory took a lot of weight off all of them. They know now that can at least beat someone . We’ve always believed in payback and EC knocked us around pretty good during that covid year so that’s one. There is another one coming in Friday night that has an unpaid whipping from the playoffs last season. Once Gautier got up in that game they wanted to fight after every play and talk trash. So come on up and let’s see if we can make that game an outlier in our history of playing each other. The winner of this game will win the region. One more thing . IDK if coast officials just aren’t used to defensive football but I’m seeing a trend in our games they officiate. Maybe they don’t like Coach Hankins. If that’s the case I hope he stays on them. Unlike some of our recent head coaches they can’t get nothing by him. They may screw us anyway but he lets them know what they are doing it and why. 2. Florence beat Brookhaven but as the season goes on, I become less and less concerned about this group coming out of the south. 3. Coast football has been missing the Pascagoula for a lot of years now . It needs to get back in the fold . That coach at Pass evidently wants to be on the coast. Sweep out that old, stale , crusty system being trotted out year after year and go pay this man. He would put them back on the map. Guaranteed. 4. Coach Boyles will have Meridian in title contention before the end of next season. Their defense has a lot of holes and the offense is far from perfect but they have two or three running plays that are dam near unstoppable now. He will only build on that. That RB turned QB can fly. He reminds me of that RB from Moss Point around 09,10 somewhere in there. In that when he gets past the line he’s gone or it takes the whole defense to put him on the ground. 5. West Jones QB took a step back last week. He started staring at the rush again rather than looking downfield. Corey needs to design some stuff for him to run with blocking in front of him to keep defenses from stampeding at the snap on third and long. Corey needs to step his game up if he can or Hattiesburg will complete what Terry couldn’t. 6. Picayune shouldn’t have another challenge until the playoffs. Save gas and let the ones and twos square off on Fridays it will be a tougher test. I know, I know George County. Blah, blah,blah. Color me unimpressed . I don’t think their fangs are that sharp especially without the officials playing offense for them walking them down the field. 7. I’ve seen and heard several saying Brandon would beat Oak Grove this Friday. Hold on to that. Brandon coach can’t scheme a passing attack at all and will need one to keep up . We would have all gotten massacred in 6A. As of today it’s like someone needs to take all of what’s left of 5 A out behind the barn and give it the ole yeller. It is ironic because all the off-season hype was being given to 5A and how good it was going to be, especially Region 4-5A and it has not been the case at all. Weird how football works sometimes.
