slicklizard
In the land of the blind the one eyed man is King * First off I’m not one to pump WC football in this column. Saying that ,I have to because it is warranted, There are several coaches around that were assts under Coach Boyles. Collums at MC , Reynolds wherever he’s bounced around to and Breland to name a few.The closest I had seen to meeting that mark was Breland at Laurel with a passing game. As close as it was to it he still couldn’t consistently get the rushing part of it down. There are other former players coaching although I’m not sure where they are. The one at WC has it down. What he is putting out there is the Boyles offense You have to cover the whole field against him and he knows how to scheme speace where the play is going. He knows how to put together a QB too. People forget this was a wing offense six months ago. He proves it more every week. *I saw it New worm in old ground Did anyone see Germantown being a legitimate threat to win that region three weeks ago ? Them beating Starkville looks like a winner take all this Friday when they host Oxford. Whatever the result their coach has had them on an upward trend since he got there . If he stays there I could see them in the title game in the next several years. Will they beat Oxford ? Of course they will have to play MC . Who would you take if they played today ? Speaking of MC to me they can’t seem to get it together under Toby . Since they were in the title game they can’t stop stumbling in the playoffs. Tupelo has had something to do with that but last season getting bounced by Horn Lake is not a good sign. This season isn’t looking much better. Is the shine wearing off and the clock ticking on a change ? More than anyone they seem to be negatively impacted by the rise of private school athletics in their area. Groundhog Day isn’t just a day on the calendar with a name Hattiesburg represented the south last year in the title game. I don’t think Hattiesburg is as good as they were last year. I also think they very easily could go back to the title game. That leaves me with this thought no one in the south in 6A is as good as Hattiesburg was last season. If there is, I would like someone to show me where. Hancock, PRC, West Jones, Terry, all look about the same as they did last season. I don’t think Pascagoula is nearly as good. All any of that means is someone out of that pack is gonna go to the title game. Which one has the most upside going forward? I left out George County because I don’t think they’ll ever be good again. It has to be a problem coming from the district office . Alert - cross all the way until you reach the big river and you will encounter a mirage Natchez. Undefeated and ranked by some people Laurel will get to pass back through Brookhaven and maybe pick up certain body parts that got taken from them last Thursday. Which I think that’s not really fair of them having to make that long trip two weeks in a row if I was a coach, I would’ve never agreed to that schedule. Nevertheless, it’s a region game and I think Laurel gets off the mat and makes that old familiar doubt that Natchez always seems to carry around with them like a backpack come creeping back. Coach Earnest is already medium rare on the cooking scale. He loses this game and you can say hello to new Laurel coach Daryl Carter. That’s who they want. If he won’t come would they just promote Corey Reynolds? I think coach Earnest would blossom again in less stale surroundings. It’s too bad he didn’t wind up in some place like Pascagoula Going with that line of thinking how does someone justify ranking South Jones as being in the upper echelon of 5A ? There was need for trap games and a loser is out of the playoffs part but I don’t have time to look it up. Someone else start it. Leaves are turning and it will soon be time for the one game season. Have a good week MST.
