Apparently Marshall Academy Coach threw their last game because it helped their seeding in the playoff format. Yes it’s ridiculous for the coach to do this but ultimately the MAIS is at fault for not realizing this would take place. Why would Marshall Academy choose to go on the road and play Leake Academy? It's one thing to not really try to win, but to flat out refuse to run plays, snap the ball, or even engage in the game is horrible. The coach messed up big time and the players and their parents should be horrified such an event happened. However, what was the MAIS thinking could happen in this new format? They clearly weren't. It's beyond silly to have this many "champions" for 4 classes in the name of keeping everyone happy. The big four in the Jackson area are so much larger than the rest of the association they really aren't able to compete, but those four are all hungry for power and bragging rights as well. And the bigwigs in the MAIS who didn’t see this coming must be blind as some of these refs this year. Come on. He is also not allowed to have contact with students. I wonder how that works in the hall way, class room, and lunch table. Absolutely classless and redefined unsportsmanship. We can agree to disagree on this one. “Unsportsmanship” was deciding to make 2 champions in each classification just to make a little extra $. Marshall academy got shafted on the new system and decided to prove it to MAIS. Coach and kids work to get into a position to win a state championship for years then you come up with a reclassification system that screws you out of it but caters to others. That’s terrible. As I said I don’t agree with the way that it was done but it’s MAIS fault for not foreseeing this. Of classification was what it was the previous years Marshall wins the SC easily. He knew that if they would have beaten Washington that they would have been in the D1 bracket by .2 points over Columbia BUT he lied to his players and said they would be in the D2 bracket win or lose. Marshall more than likely would have beaten Washington. Agreed that the playoff system is a joke. It will get fixed. This is also the same coach that took the Manchester job for like a month then up and resigned. A week later he was announced as Marshall’s head coach.
