USM and Fun Belt reach an agreement.

Best case scenario for our program! Hopefully Hall can get it rolling. Will be an awesome Baseball conference as well! -
Yeah, I don't think it would be a good fit for him or Goula. Honestly would like to see them try and get someone out of the area.

I know there are at least 3-4 assistants on the staff now that were there when Ross was there. There were more last year, but a few left I believe which opened the door for guys like USM Alums Tracey Lampley and Allen Howze to join the staff. I have a buddy who is on the staff now that was with Pennock at Pass and he was able to join the staff this year after a few coaching spots opened up. For the record, I agree, the coach needs to have some say in who he wants as assistants. New coach should have the chance to interview all on current staff to determine who he wants or think is a good fit. However, the way the vast majority of HS systems are set up, you don't see a huge staff turnover like you do at the collegiate/pro level.

1000% agree. I think he is the right man for the job. A lot of work to do, but I just hope the fans/boosters can be patient and let him build it up.

The Will Hall era is not off to a promising start at all. We look abysmal on offense, even when we had our starting QB in there. Passing game has been bad. Offensive line is as bad as I have seen ever. We signed some JUCO guys that I have not seen take the field on offense line. Defense has been consistent in my opinion but they spend tons of time on the field most games. Hall is going to have to get some players in fast or he will not be at USM long. Fans are already getting frustrated. I believe in Hall and think he is the right man for the job, but there has to be a vast turn around next season.

A change is coming I believe. I think Sims will return for his last year needed for state retirement and then move on to RCS like many folk in the town say. Pascagoula is a different program today, than it was when Sims was hired. Facilities are among the best around on the coast. There is talent here and coming up. The program as a whole has experienced more success in the past decade than it did prior to Sims' arrival. I think it will attract some quality candidates. The biggest question is what will the Admin be like. I have heard in the past that red tape/restrictions that Rodo and Co. had in place turned away a lot of quality candidates for coaching jobs in all sports in both Pascagoula and Gautier. There needs to be some house cleaning, but I believe there are some good assistant coaches that will help the program grow. The reality in HS football is that no staff is going to be completely wiped out. Most schools have gone away from tying teaching/coaching jobs together which makes it harder for coaches to bring in their own guys. I think when Sims came in, he was only able to bring Fant and one other assistant from MP. The other staff members were already on staff. I think if they allow a new HC to bring in 3-4 of his own guys, that would be fine. I agree the district as a whole is not committed to building a successful program in Pascagoula. Game day atmospheres suck in all sports for the most part. The district as a whole needs to reset. Hopefully a new Superintendent can shock things in a positive way! I'm a glass half full guy and will try to always find the positive in situations LOL. Definitely a disappointing season given the expectations coming in, should've beaten both Harrison Central and D'Iberville. If the offense executes better against Gulfport, I think that is winnable too. I'll be honest felt OS was better than us and even playing our best game, I didn't think it would be enough. However, I surprised to only muster 3 points. Again, we had opportunities, but ultimately made nothing out of them. I hope we can rally the troops and finish the season strong.

OS is certainly head and shoulders above everyone in the region. Unless Hubbard goes down, I don't see them losing until possibly the playoffs. I don't think Gulfport or Harrison Central are good enough right now. Goula either. I think OS beating D'Iberville like they did was sort of an "outlier" if you will, but I don't think they could keep it closer than 14 or so anyway. I think D'Iberville is a solid ball club, but I think OS is just that much better than the rest right now.

Rumor is around town that RCS is coming hard at him to come be their HFC. So something may be happening sooner rather than later. As far as Friday night. I have not been able to make games like I have in years passed due to work having me on the road a good bit here lately. I have gotten to watch the replays on my Roku and youtube. If we can clean up red-zone miscues, we could be really, really good. Even without Parnell, we drove down into Gulfport plus territory several times with zero points to show for it. If we capitalize on just a few, its a different ball game. Defense HAS to step up in a big way. If the offense can clean up its miscues, I think they can move the ball. Especially if Parnell is back. I think it will be a great football game. Hoping the Panthers can shock some people Friday!

I'm torn because I sort of agree with most of this. Coach Sims is a tremendous man and coach. He has brought the program up way high from where it was when I played (mid-2000's) and even a few years before that. He helped make Pascagoula relevant again and I am thankful for that. However, I think he has softened up over time since coming to Goula. His teams still play hard, I just don't see the physical edge and crispness that were there the first 5-6 years. I do believe we have some great assistant coaches on staff that will are a great asset for the team and community. Having Larry Sisson come on as QB coach has been great for us. It's hard because I see where things have faltered and gone wrong, but I also see how far his leadership has brought us from what we were and if you know this program, you know from basically 1990-2011, we were average at best and not a team many feared. A few seasons here and there we were a threat but consistency wasn't something Pascagoula was known for in football for about 20 years or so.

Just able to sit down and talk about the game. Was out of town at a wedding and just got the chance to watch the game last night. First, hats off to Wayne County. Heck of a job. They wanted it more than our kids did (especially in the 1st half). Found a weakness in our defense and exploited it all night. That probably was the least physically imposing Wayne County team I have seen in the last few years, but I would argue it was the best coached as well. Great game plan. I read where someone posted earlier in the thread about Wayne County being sort of an unknown because they haven't played a game yet. I think that played a factor some in the game, but Wayne County simply wanted it more early on and made the plays they needed to, when they needed to. Offensively, we looked out of sync and off rhythm. We would make a good play, then a penalty flag or negative play bring us back. Going back and watching the game, Wayne County was fully committed to stopping our run. We should've tried the passing game a little more earlier on in my opinion. We were having success later in the 3rd/4th quarter having to play catch up. I think if we attempted some things earlier on in the passing game, it would have made things a little easier maybe for run game. Wayne County did a great job keeping our defense off balance as well. Going from spread type formations to more wing-t like (or Low-T as some have dubbed it lol) was a good change of pace and utilized strength in the backfield. Wayne County will be a good one going forward and I think they have a shot to make some serious noise as they begin to gel and get their feet under them. As for my Panthers, we have to figure out the kinks defensively. Two weeks in a row we didn't look great. Offense just had to clean up mistakes. We got down inside the 15-20 yard line several times and only had 6 points to show for it. Can't have that if you want to compete and win ball games. I have confidence we can clean that up on offense. Defense, I don't know. Two weeks now with two different offensive philosophies we've been beaten soundly. I trust Sims to help right the ship. Best of Luck to Wayne County the rest of the way!!

I hate to hear that. I can't imagine how difficult that is for that young man. You are right about the being virtual. I think it played a huge factor in hurting us, however I think it was a good lesson learned for the players and staff. Was planning on attending the game, but unfortunately I have a wedding weekend in Pensacola so I will be watching the live stream. I was told WGUD would be live streaming it. Not sure how accurate that may be with it being an away contest though.

I truly hate that you guys haven't been able to practice. That sucks to not be able to play AND not be able to even practice. From a conditioning standpoint, I know that is probably a concern for the coaching staff. Not having the jamboree or 1st game under our belts I believe hurt us last Friday. I am excited to continue to play you guys. Was always a fun game when I was player at Goula. You guys are always a great program and measuring stick. Can't wait to watch our teams go to war Friday!
-
I'm expecting a typical Wayne County team. Tough, physical and great athletes. Coffee shop talk in town is that Wayne County hasn't been allowed to practice until this past Thursday or Friday while they were out on quarantine. Any truth to that? If so, I think that could be advantageous for Goula. If not, I expect a hard-fought contest in Waynesboro between two good football teams. Goula has a lot of work on defense to fix, but the potential is there. Lot of young talent on the field defensively including several sophomores and freshmen seeing quality playing time.

If our defense plays like it did last week, you'll be fine. lol Goula's defense was sieve Friday night. We hardly brought any pressure. You could tell our secondary was very young as well. All 4 starters are 1st year players. Gautier took advantage of that. Their offense is legit and will be able to put up points on just about anybody they will see the rest of the way. The defense however is another story. DB's aren't great at all in man coverage. They get beat quite a bit, but do a great job with jersey pulls and holding. They probably had 7-8 penalties on that the other night (should've had probably another 5-6 on top of that). They are athletic but lack physicality. We ran the ball at will on them for the majority of the night. Conditioning was a huge problem for us Friday. For the first time since Lewis Sims has been our coach, we were easily the more out of shape team on the field. At one point in the 3rd quarter, we had 6-7 guys on the sideline or on the field cramping. We were down to a freshman at RB and JV players at WR at one point. Not to take anything away from Gautier, because they are really good ball club and honestly have the offense to win their region, but I think if we don't have those cramping issues, it may have been a different outcome. Not having a jamboree and a season opener on top of being quarantined was not good for us.

It is, but you would figure most 6A programs (especially ones with almost 2,000 kids in it) would have a fairly serviceable backup. Going to be a fun year!!
