Raleigh, Forest, St Patrick,  Columbia, and Hazlehurst, and one other south school open that week in MHSAA.  Several in MAIS i think are open in the south. I think part of the problem is coaches not all but some are scheduling with coaches they went to college with. Others are looking for wins. Also the 5 team regions are part of the problem.

Let me back up, its Poplarville with an open date and not Columbia.  PCS found an opponent and St Patrick is filled.

I don’t think Forest has that problem either. They just don’t want to play. Never thought a day would come when teams are hesitant to play Raleigh but Forest sure dropped that game and they can’t find a replacement. Raleigh has reached out to several teams that also have a bye that week and all have declined. The crazy thing is that it was a good game  last year. Forest is capable of winning that game this year but we will never know. It would’ve been a good money game for Forest too because Raleigh would’ve brought a great crowd. Oh well.

If I’m picking a sleeper this year, I’m gonna pick Collins. I think they could surprise some people. I think they finish 2nd in the district behind east Marion, but wouldn’t be totally shocked if they ended up winning the region. They always have good looking athletes. I still can’t believe they haven’t consolidated with Mount Olive yet.

The legislature will have to pass a bill to make them consolidate most likely. Otherwise Mt Olive will fight it til bitter end. My guess is Mt Olive remains a Ore K thru 8th grade if they do consolidate anytime soon.

Winona is absolutely loaded in every single grade. They will be very competitive and should represent the North Half of the state. I know it’s hard to bet against Noxubee County but the team Winona has is ridiculous. They have 4-5 legitimate D1 players in 3A.

Where do they play Noxubee and Choctaw County at?

Oh that is correct, region 7 and region 8 #1 seeds would both host in a tiebreaker situation for home field in the 3rd round.

With Heidelberg enrollment at the bottom of 2A they may have lost enough talent to help East Marion or whomever knock them off.

No. East Marion would face Heidelberg or Mize in round 3, but still have home field advantage in that scenario

U misunderstood me. Both Wesson and East Marion would host in Round 3 as 1 seeds if all things equal:

    Scott Central @ Wesson

    Heidelberg @ East Marion

Lake will finish #2 in their region, but the only way they would make it to South state would mean they have to beat Mize or Heidelberg in round 3. And that ain’t happening, not even close. Heck we were beating Lake at halftime 42-0 in the first round last season. Lake may wouldn’t even make the playoffs if they were in region 6.

Heidelberg  not Mize. Mize will have to get past Wesson in Round 2.

  8. FIrst Round

    Wilkinson County @ Scott Central

    Bay Springs @ Collins

    Newton @ Wesson

    Perry Central  @ Mize

    North Forrest @ Heidelberg

    Pelahatchie @ Amite CCounty

    Clarkdale @ East Marion

    Loyd Star @ Lake

I believe Lake will win Region 5 since they are playing 3A numbers and are favored this year. But if they finish 2nd I pick Lake vs Wesson for South State.

I wonder if that is the issue in byhalia, rosa fort and louisville as well.

I think its a problem for all 1A to 4A schools. Those kids in Byhalia and Tunica moving to DeSoto County for jobs, Louisville is rural but does have jobs just not enough to keep kids from moving to Golden Triangle or Rankin/Madison County areas. You keep going to Hattiesburg to play championships those kids see what's in Hattiesburg area. College's are able to recruit some if these kids away from their home towns thru championship games. Basketball wise its outside of Jackson for them to make a new home.
