Buddy Stephens East MS Community College Coach.
MSSportsGuy replied to Vott's topic in Mississippi College Sports
Honestly I'd love to see Juco football in Mississippi revamped. Let's be honest: the CC athletic programs don't bring in revenue, they are only expenses for the institutions. There is no TV money, limited sponsors, no merchandise revenue, etc. Yes, the same can be said for many small colleges, but our state doesn't have nearly as many as we have Juco programs. Stephens did what happens to a lot of people: he spoke out of emotions and didn't use his brain. He can't criticize the administration of the state association (which is essentially the arm of the CC Presidents) and not face repercussions. -

He should have probably used better wording to voice his displeasure. Most people in authority positions don't respond well to name-calling publicly from persons under their influence. I think he felt bullet-proof from his previous history and didn't think much about it. Just my thoughts -
I could possibly go back and say Poplarville. But Pass Christian? I just dont see them being in the top 10 of the best schools on the coast right now.
-
What has Picayune done this season to say they are above either Pass or Poplarville?? We will be able to answer the question about Poplarville/Picayune in a few weeks. Maybe I am jumping the gun, but to see Picayune get shut out - at Home - for the first time in 20+ years speaks volumes. Gulfport is really, really good. They were last year, and Picayune beat them. Picayune has routinely beaten higher classification teams. So to see them get shut out, in my opinion, speaks volumes to how "down" they may be.
-
Was his firing warranted by calling the Board of Directors "Idiots" for changing the MS JUCO playoff system? This topic can be moved to the college topic if needed. I know more of us are more interested in high school

Pass Christian nor Poplarville are above Picayune. Diberville possibly.
-
From what I watched from Friday's broadcast, I would say yes.
-
Coast football as a whole is down in my opinion this year. You have Gulfport that appears to be on its own level, then Pass Christian, Poplarville and probably d'Iberville are in the next rung and then after that it appears to just be a pretty fair amount of average teams.
-
Is Pascagoula going to be more run oriented? The reason why I ask that is because the new coach said he wanted to get his RB 1500 yards this season.
-
Green and staff are in the process of changing a culture here. It may take some time but there were very encouraging signs on display in week one.
-
Resurrection is terrible so I doubt there's any battle there. Unless I'm unaware of new talent at Resurrection
-
Sure are. I forget that every year. I just think of them as being a "northern" school along with most of the MS Delta.
-
I will say this. It appeared that no offensive adjustments were made against Gulfport. Now was that by design or by choice? I really don't know, but to just throw in the towel like that is just completely uncharacteristic of a Maroon Tide team. I personally have no desire for performances like that to continue regardless of opponent.

Bay springs shouldn’t have any trouble with Taylorsville at all. It’s just a really down year for them. The RB is a good player but they are just so young on the offensive line, it’s gonna be hard for him to be able to do a whole lot. I think they and Resurrection will battle it out for the 4th playoff spot. I think Stringer will dominate the region, then Lumberton and Richton will be 2 and 3.

That’s facts the game has to be played! See you guys on Friday -
I’m going to throw this on here out of left field because I don’t want anyone to act surprised when it happens and not many people keep up with 1A football especially in North Mississippi but West Tallahatchie High School has a really good football team. I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see the North come down to them, Calhoun, and Simmons. Just a team for some of you to keep an eye on up here. We will find out just how good they are in a few weeks when they play Charleston but a hot take in 1A North is West Tally.

they did lose a lot they do have a experience QB and he much better this year than last year it will come down to who make the less mentally mistakes to win the game like last year and Shannon not bad off competing with Louisville and since Topps been the head coach they been going in the right direction he want Shannon to be disciplined and trying to get Shannon back on the map he already changed the culture there and 4A is lot harder and you gotta be mentally stronger to compete in 4A -
How has Taylorsville fallen so far off of the cliff so quickly? Where have all their players gone?
-
They are knocking on the doorstep of it with Oxford this Friday unless they are poised for an upset but Fair has actually had decent success versus Oxford over the years. I think he beat them twice at Lafayette (with lesser talent) and when he was at Grenada. I am not positive on that but I think that may be right.
