They’re decent, but I think Michigan just kinda stinks. 3-2 and one of their wins was a total miracle that didn’t even follow the rules. But yeah, Minnesota is probably their usual 7 or 8 win selves this year so that’s a solid win. i do think the Mizzou win is doing most of the heavy lifting because that’s now a Top 15 team that played like a Playoff contender on Saturday

I don't think it will determine who wins the region but it will put the winner in the playoffs barring a collapse. Pascagoula 's defense is going to give the spread teams in the region fits and if the spread team isn't strong on defense will likely beat them.

But to answer your question directly. The winner of this game won't determine jack. You can also throw in the word that goes after jack as well for color purposes while also keeping it G rated on the board.

This week there are so many good opening games I haven’t kept up with what’s the expectation levels. Maybe discuss what your gut tells you is going to happen Wayne County hasn’t really won a game. Winfield but I don’t really count that. And two of the games they missed a two point conversion that would have won with virtually no time on the clock. The glaring loss was the second week in a row that they had to ride to Jackson and they faced Northwestst Rankin . Unforced turnovers and penalties in the red zone pretty much derailed that one in the first quarter. They were right there with West Jones too at the end. So I am hopeful, the same as I was before they played the first game. I told someone ,not naming names , they know who they are , that West Jones wos my favorite for the south title after they lost the laurel . They didn’t agree. I stand by that. There are a whole lot of problems for HS football we haven’t even thought about with all this money being thrown around. The cream of the crop are going to start skipping parts of seasons or whole seasons entirely to minimize risk. Sadly there is nothing anyone can do to avoid it. The whole HS scene is disappearing rapidly. I never saw this coming ten years ago. Fighting The MHSAA has to come down hard on these schools that are involved in it. Look into it thoroughly and hammer the ones who initiate it. These games have to kept safe and having an angry mob of people is a dangerous thing. Start with suspensions and go from there. I didn’t really discuss any games here this week . I would like to see some of the the results of these region openers before diving in. Although if anyone wants to drop in intrigue about one feel free. Waiting on this Friday.

I honestly dont know the answer to this. Is PRC going to have a say in who wins the region this year? You really cant look at it from this perspective but on the other hand you cant help but notice that PRC gave Poplarville all they wanted but Poplarville dominated Picayune. Also PRC is better than last year and Picayune, while still a good team has dropped off a little. It will not shock me if the loser of this is a 3 seed come playoff time.

I feel like Cleveland Central is the only team in 5A north who might possibly play west point a good game and maybe defeat them. That would most likely be in the 5A North final

You are right about HHS. They have really not been themselves after that last minute collapse vs Petal. It seems like that game has just been looming over our head. Hopefully the bye week helped and the players and coaches have hit the reset button. Of course its probably only going to come down to one region game to determine the region winner.

The won't but they should win this week thanks to Pontotoc Shannon game. Pontotoc QB going down was a major blow for them but who knows what else happens to them after the post game brawl. I would have put money on Pontotoc winning that game but not after that.

West Point, I believe that they will still make the state championship game.

Yes, I believe he originally played at Vardaman and is an Ole Miss commit but he is currently playing at Brentwood Academy south of Nashville.

Did not see Meridian@Pearl listed. Don’t know much about Pearl but Meridian has been either feast or famine so far this season. We have not played particularly well there over the years so we will see what happens. Having an open date I think was beneficial for Meridian to kind of reset and get ready for Region play.

AP Poll is pretty worthless in this era but I did find it interesting that State only dropped one spot to 17. Mizzou crushing Florida like they did probably helped State from a perception standpoint. Although now State is ranked behind a Mizzou team they just beat a week ago, so that’s kinda silly. But not the only instance of something like that in the polls. LSU is now ahead of Ole Miss in the coaches poll, for example. I’ll start putting stock into any polls in about a month when the CFP polls start rolling out.
