It's getting close to region time so it's time to step up being uncomfortable. New name more honesty This is the south portion My partner is attending to other matters and will add his part in the thread if possible. I watched Gulfport and Petal play the other night. Good game to watch because of the coaches. It will be interesting to see where both go from last Friday. But my takeaway is something that I finally put my finger on about Petal. It’s been a long time since Marcus chose family over titles so it’s not that. It’ those dame uniforms. I can’t stand the red color and stupid red panther. It imparts heat. Like I’ve got a fever or wind chapped face. Your players probably feel a little sick too after putting them on. I know the Panther defense has always played that way/ Like they had a flu fever. I think they should consider changing it. It caught help them get over the hump. I rag on Stone County a good bit. Mainly because they more than anyone have benefitted from the sorry region created by Hathorne and his buddies. More than that though do they even have a rival ? Do they even play on Friday nights ? It’s like trying to find King Solomon’s lost mines trying to get any info whether they won or lost , who did they play etc. Plus in the history of histories I can’t recall them getting more than one playoff win in a season.It rubs me wrong that they can’t rep our region any better either. The region is already bad Stone makes it look worse. Diberville has a chance this Friday to finally stand up to that abusive spouse. I don’t think they will. They used to throw the ball. They used to be dynamic and have fast players. I will go out on a limb here and say they will be 7-0 going into the Gulfport game only to lose yet again. Petal knocked them out of the playoffs last season 14-3. Three measly points against a team that views defense as optional if the opponent scores ten points. I don’t think your coach is that good and I don’t even know who the guy is. Has he ever had a big marquee win ? That district is growing by leaps and bounds and they should be planning on taking a seat at the big dinner, Are they ? I just realized this is all coast teams. I rolling with it anyway. There’s a lot more season and a lot left to say.

they need to put the students back on the home side (by school) like it was for 50 years. When I go to games now, I sit over there with visitors because the last few times I sat on press box side, the mens room was closed after halftime because the student boys were fighting and breaking things in the mens room. I think more citizens would go the games if they would do that.

When Will Hall was at UWA, I really thought he was a rising star in the coaching ranks. But he left there to go to West Georgia. He had great success in the Gulf South Conference (which historically has always been known as SEC Lite) at both schools with three conference championships. But that did not translate into success at USM, which in the present day, sadly is in a hole that I am not sure they will ever completely climb out of. I think Anderson can have some moderate success but I fear the ceiling is relatively low.

I am curious as to the numbers for the following schools: Mendenhall, Richland, Forest, Amory, Louisville, Ripley, Byhalia, Rosa Fort, Sacred Heart, O' Bannon, Union, Resurrection, Lake, Strayhorn, Clarkdale, Belmont, Collins, Water Valley, Aberdeen, Myrtle, Heidelberg, Taylorsville.

yea Shannon going to score more than 34 pts and hopefully to shut them out on the scoreboard, it a get right game for Shannon and it will be over by end of 1st Q. New Albany and Pontotoc will be a lot of running in that game than a lot of passing and yea New Albany can score quickly and Pontotoc got some weakness where New Albany can expose them at, it will come down to who win in the trenchers.

ha. shannon could score as many as they want with saltillo. better get up big at half and let the jv play in the 2nd half. New Albany has established a pattern on D over the past several years and evidently don't understand or simply refuse to adjust to defending the run. their backers are small and evidently aren't taught how to properly read keys. I think Pontotoc will have 250-300 yds rushing and mix in 4 or 5 passes. New Albany can score quick but the key to them is stopping the inside trap.

Pontotoc and New Albany won't be no blow out. what about Shannon and Saltillo

If they turned in 215 or less its very likely borderline or 2A.

One game I’m interested in is Clarkdale and SELauderdale. Clarkdale is 4-0, but their best win has been a close game with Stringer, which isn’t bad bad thing. I think SE is improved, so I will be interested to see how that game turns out. Also kind of interested to see how Quitman and bay springs turns out. I like Bay Springs in that one, but I think Quitman isn’t really as bad as they have looked so far.

Mize has not been fully healthy all season so far, but we hopefully we will be when district play starts in a couple weeks. If we can just get by this week against Newton county, we will have a bye week before starting district play and that should give us some much needed recovery time. Fingers crossed, we should have everybody back this week but they won’t all be at full strength. This exact same thing happened to us last season early on.

Curious where Union will fall this go around. I’ve heard they are expecting to be coming back down to 2A

I wouldn't expect him to throw him under the bus because I think he is good OC. We know him well up here in north MS and other than having a dad who won big when he simply had a butt load of more talent then his opponents there is nothing that says Will will ever be a good HC. He really spoke big of players he recruited and then most didn't touch the field for Huff. I'll wait and see how the Tulane season plays out and then watch to see how his recruiting and portal class looks. Maybe he fools me. I will wait and see.

I am ready to see some official tallys

We played Hattiesburg every year back in the Big 8 days and then we were division rivals for some years through 1980’s and 90’s. And yes, Hattiesburg wins were few and far between through those years. But that was a long time ago and I don’t think that necessarily will affect this game. I still think you have to give Hattiesburg the edge but I look for a much closer game this year. Meridian is vastly improved and this game will IMHO be the best measuring stick for this team to date. Ocean Springs is way down and I think we got the big head against Neshoba Central. We were somewhat better at Starkville but no where near being a top ten team and Columbus is worse than awful. So this game will show me where we stand. And I am glad to play Hattiesburg again. For decades (1920’s-1990’s) Laurel was our biggest rival and with a lot of hate. I miss those days. Man when we played Laurel in any sport, it was going to be physical and very competitive. And Hattiesburg as well to some degree but because we dominated the series in football it was not nearly as heated. Probably around 20 years ago or so we played Hattiesburg at the Rock and that was a fun night for Meridian. I think we won by 40 points and there was probably 7-8K in USM’s stadium including a large contingent from Meridian. Friday, we will be lucky to have 3-4K at Ray Stadium. We had a decent crowd for the Columbus game and this one will probably be a bit larger. But HS football just does not draw large crowds in the present day.

The form said they wanted the September enrollment. If schools are only reporting 15 days counting today September 21st then all numbers will be lower. That's different from the usual October date. Now they have until September 28th to make corrections. My educated guess tells me the numbers can change +/- starting Tuesday morning. The question i have is do you run the risk by adding or subtracting by Monday the 28th of throwing yourself up a class or down a class.

All the numbers and sports schools are playing should be turned in by now.

Good point on UConn. I forgot that they hired Candle from Toledo as their coach. He will have a P4 job sooner rather than later.

I was kind of afraid of this. I read somewhere that 75 players on the roster this year were not on the roster last year. Obviously there is a good bit of turnover nowadays but that many is a recipe for failure. I do think he will have success in the years to come but this year is going to be a struggle. Another thing is Connecticut seems to actually have a decent team this year. Hopefully they can have some success in the Sunbelt. Still have the conference games in front of them.
