Georgia can really hit but our pitching with the walks/HBP’s has been horrible. Aoki is like college version of Maddox. Very tough with changing speeds etc.
-
Game not over but feels like today will be the end of the line for State. Georgia can really hit and State’s pitching staff pretty much no showed the weekend…. Not a good combination. Georgia and Texas (presumably) matching up in Omaha is going to be really good TV.
-
Their trying to come to Raleigh too. Just tells me there a problems.

I been a practice and have not seen any new kids. How can the kid live in Taylorsville and play at Mize. Which kids is he trying to recruit from Mize. I know he has a cousin that goes to Mize but he hasn’t reached out to him or the kid dad who is Agee great uncle or something like that
-
Ive only heard of two that have come in. And one had to because his dad was named the head baseball coach. And the kid from FCAHS. But if anyone has come in from somewhere else i haven’t heard about it.
-
This year is probably the worst I’ve seen.
-
Did they grow up in HPSD too? The word going around is Hattiesburg has been poaching players heavily the last few years.
-
Speaking of recruiting, Taylorsville’s head coach has been working his butt off in recruiting and it’s finally paid off a little bit. He has been trying to recruit a handful of mize kids for a couple years now and he finally convinced one of our better 10th graders to move. The only reason he will get away with this one is because the kid already lives in Taylorsville and always has. The former superintendent a few years ago moved him to Mize basically to rehab him because he stayed in trouble in Tville and was failing while in elementary school. He came to Mize a few years ago and turned everything around. Agee has been trying to get him back at Tville for a while now and he finally got him. He’s a good athlete, hopefully for him he doesn’t fall back into old habits now that he’s back at Tville.
-
Whether or not they should, they ain’t gonna mess with them, IMO
-
Smith county will never consolidate all 3 schools, and they shouldn’t. There is no reason to. Mize is one of the best schools in the entire state, and Raleigh also is one of the better schools. They aren’t struggling academically and don’t have any behavioral issues whatsoever. Taylorsville is the only school that’s struggling. They actually have shown a lot of improvement the last couple of years compared to where they were a few years ago, but again once those parents move out and no new parents move in, it’s hard to get a school back to where it once was. It’s almost impossible. Unless new parents start moving into Tville, the school isn’t going to improve enough. And nobody is trying to move their kids into the school. If anything, more and more parents are trying to get them into mize or Sylva bay.
-
How many schools in MHSAA have on campus housing for students? I only know of three. Two of those three will have the 1.5 multiplier added to them.
-
Honestly Mize will probably draw some of the Mt Olive students who moved into the area as a means to avoid Collins. I do believe closing Taylorsville will be a last resort by Smith County to even discuss the closure of schools. Raleigh was only built for 750 students. If both high schools moved to Raleigh a new Junior high wing will have to be built or move it back to the elementary. Then keep Mize and Taylorsville at PreK thru 8th.
-
They have Nanih Waiya, Connehatta, Bogue Chitto, and Bogue Hommo off the top of my head.
-
Mize is around 850 PK-12 if I am reading correctly according to US News and World Report. I am having trouble pulling up MDE numbers. My guess is you close Taylorsville High and split the students mostly to Mize to put Mize over the 1000 mark.
-
What about the kids from North Forrest they’ve gotten the last few years?
-
Auburn’s offense did next to nothing this weekend. A lot of that is OM pitching, but I definitely didn’t see a lineup with Auburn that was overly scary either. But I may be slanted by watching State and Georgia hit a zillion homers earlier today. lol.
-
Ole Miss in two. Not surprised. They are just playing good baseball. Finding ways to win close games. And Auburn while a good team, IMO, they were not quite as good as they were ranked.
-
Ole Miss is going to Omaha. Just have pitched extremely well when it counts. And timely enough hitting. Will play either USC or North Carolina in their first game. And frankly they’re on the side of the bracket where a deep run is very much on the table.

And I am not sure if there is any pitching that can completely shut down Georgia. They score runs and then they score more runs. Yes our bullpen is mediocre but they shelled Valincius for seven runs in less than five innings.
-
The question is what schools consolidate with who? Seminary ain’t gonna allow consolidation with mount olive and collins. So mount olive would just have to consolidate with collins alone. Taylorsville eventually is going to have to consolidate with somebody but I think that’s still several years away. Once you allow a school to go down it’s almost impossible to save it. And Tville went down super fast, almost like it was overnight. Now nobody wants to move into the town because they don’t want their kids to go to school there.
-
It’s unfortunate that this is a Super matchup and not an Omaha matchup because Georgia is probably the best team left and State is probably one of the best 3-5 teams still playing, but such is life. Maybe if this team could’ve found any resemblance of a competent bullpen they’d be a Top 8 seed playing someone far more beatable at Dudy Noble and on their way back to Omaha. I don’t even fault any of the pitching decisions. All of those guys are varying degrees of not good. There is not a single person I can point to that I can say confidently “they would’ve done better”. They all stink.
-
Sums it up. We are about one-two runs below Georgia.
-
Georgia wins the track meet. State’s inability to develop pitching depth on this team is why their season is probably over by Monday. I really struggle to see a path to State winning both of these next two games. If you can’t hold a 7-0 lead with Valincius on the mound, or hold a two run lead with only six outs to get, how on earth can anyone expect the next two days to go better, barring some weird “that’s baseball” type shenanigans.
