They aren’t better than Heidelberg, but they could at least definitely frustrate Heidelberg. They will meet up in the 3rd round
-
East Marion wasn’t getting preseason respect. They are now. I was big on them from the very beginning. They are now on a collision course with Heidelberg in the 3rd round.
-
Russell is beginning to do what I thought he would do there. Thrive.

So do you think there will be as much movement as we initially thought or less now that the multiplier isn't being applied? I'm still intrigued to see what the baseling numbers are with so many schools reporting being down in numbers.

About 7 to 10 days as I remember in the past. Here is what complicates that this year: September 21st turn numbers in September 28th last day to correct numbers We wait on MDE variafication of numbers October 5th many schools on fall break October 12th other schools on fall break I think the schools were given a week to basically correct their numbers without protesting the numbers then go on fall break and not worry about it. So hopefully the only protest should be on regions. I think most schools are basically be in the same class same region. There will be a few go north or south that won't like it. There will be a few that won't like the region but will look at it like this is an easier region to win or this is a harder region but a hard schedule makes you better for the playoffs. I will not be surprised if they try to separate some of the schools in Region 4-3A and Region 6-3A to give others an opportunity for making the playoffs the next 2 years like say an Aberdeen or McLaurin. Sending Winona to Region 3 or JDC/Seminary to region 8 for example. I do believe they know their classes but not sure about the Regions just yet. However when you insert numbers into a computer it can spit that list out relatively quick. Hopefully it can separate by region and the director can correct or adjust regions as he sees fit. Then they do know what region they are in by now with instructions to not leak. Not leaking is hard enough because all coaches want to know for the sport they coach. Wait and see mode.

Germantown literally just beat Starkville.
-
Elko's issue is that Marcel has been exposed.
-
They do allow a period to where lets say a school could dispute which region they are placed in ETC. Some of this si the period from the Oct 15 meeting to the Nov 4 meeting.
-
so where do you have germantown?
-
When HCA was playing at Leetown during their inaugural season, they didn’t even have goalposts. So no field goals and no extra points.
-
Colmer Middle didn’t have a 7th grade kicker so they just spotted the ball. Every other team so far has done kickoffs. None of them attempt 1 point PAT’s, so they all go for two which I personally like. Also, none of them punt the ball either. If a team elects to punt, the officials just mark it off.
-
They have athletes that don’t mind getting dirty. I’d love to see them vs Heidelberg
-
Those are department of education meetings not MHSAA meetings. We can assume those will be soon scheduled after MDE approves the numbers. I don't know if those numbers have to be approved at a meeting or they can simply approved and returned to MHSAA.

Starkville, MC or Oxford going to finish, Starkville, Oxford play last game of the regular season at Starkville, that will tell us who will probably get 2nd, 3rd

There is a few maybe 5 that could go up and 5 that can go down. A few that could be in one region or another. In the past Raleigh has been in 3A Region 5 for years, then changed to Region 8 and have been in Region 6 the last 20 years or so.
-
MAIS teams play regular games with full special teams, most don’t kick extra points and just go for 2.
-
Yes, they have them and are basically waiting on the oct 15 meeting and then the nov 4 meeting. Some basically know which region and class, etc already but are waiting for it to be made official. I assume things will be revealed soon after this time.
-
To my knowledge only the schools, AD's, principal, and MHSAA has the numbers.
-
first in region 2
-
Where do you think Germantown will end up?
-
That’s pretty how much how all junior high and JV games are. But each team can elect to do special teams if they choose
-
Hernando is a quality team and will probably finish 2nd to Tupelo in region. However, I'm not sure they can defeat whoever the region 2-#3 team they'll face in the first round. just my thoughts.
-
JV is supposed to do them according to MHSAA rules but most coaches don't do them in JV games. Our junior high on the coast do them all
-
From whatever part of the state you are reading this, in your JV and Jr High games do you have kickoffs punts PAT's or FG"s attempted? Here in the Pine Belt all they do is start the game on the 20yd line. And if its 4th down the officials give them team a 30yd punt if they dont go for it. And if a teams scores a TD they go for two. For some reason that bothers me. Because our special teams is not the strongest and I believe it would be better if they started doing it before they reached varsity level.

In the land of the blind the one eyed man is King * First off I’m not one to pump WC football in this column. Saying that ,I have to because it is warranted, There are several coaches around that were assts under Coach Boyles. Collums at MC , Reynolds wherever he’s bounced around to and Breland to name a few.The closest I had seen to meeting that mark was Breland at Laurel with a passing game. As close as it was to it he still couldn’t consistently get the rushing part of it down. There are other former players coaching although I’m not sure where they are. The one at WC has it down. What he is putting out there is the Boyles offense You have to cover the whole field against him and he knows how to scheme speace where the play is going. He knows how to put together a QB too. People forget this was a wing offense six months ago. He proves it more every week. *I saw it New worm in old ground Did anyone see Germantown being a legitimate threat to win that region three weeks ago ? Them beating Starkville looks like a winner take all this Friday when they host Oxford. Whatever the result their coach has had them on an upward trend since he got there . If he stays there I could see them in the title game in the next several years. Will they beat Oxford ? Of course they will have to play MC . Who would you take if they played today ? Speaking of MC to me they can’t seem to get it together under Toby . Since they were in the title game they can’t stop stumbling in the playoffs. Tupelo has had something to do with that but last season getting bounced by Horn Lake is not a good sign. This season isn’t looking much better. Is the shine wearing off and the clock ticking on a change ? More than anyone they seem to be negatively impacted by the rise of private school athletics in their area. Groundhog Day isn’t just a day on the calendar with a name Hattiesburg represented the south last year in the title game. I don’t think Hattiesburg is as good as they were last year. I also think they very easily could go back to the title game. That leaves me with this thought no one in the south in 6A is as good as Hattiesburg was last season. If there is, I would like someone to show me where. Hancock, PRC, West Jones, Terry, all look about the same as they did last season. I don’t think Pascagoula is nearly as good. All any of that means is someone out of that pack is gonna go to the title game. Which one has the most upside going forward? I left out George County because I don’t think they’ll ever be good again. It has to be a problem coming from the district office . Alert - cross all the way until you reach the big river and you will encounter a mirage Natchez. Undefeated and ranked by some people Laurel will get to pass back through Brookhaven and maybe pick up certain body parts that got taken from them last Thursday. Which I think that’s not really fair of them having to make that long trip two weeks in a row if I was a coach, I would’ve never agreed to that schedule. Nevertheless, it’s a region game and I think Laurel gets off the mat and makes that old familiar doubt that Natchez always seems to carry around with them like a backpack come creeping back. Coach Earnest is already medium rare on the cooking scale. He loses this game and you can say hello to new Laurel coach Daryl Carter. That’s who they want. If he won’t come would they just promote Corey Reynolds? I think coach Earnest would blossom again in less stale surroundings. It’s too bad he didn’t wind up in some place like Pascagoula Going with that line of thinking how does someone justify ranking South Jones as being in the upper echelon of 5A ? There was need for trap games and a loser is out of the playoffs part but I don’t have time to look it up. Someone else start it. Leaves are turning and it will soon be time for the one game season. Have a good week MST.
