Join us in congratulating beloved CA alumnus (c/o ‘95), Tripp McCarty on his new title as Head Football Coach for the 2025 Varsity Panther football team. With an undergrad and Master of Independent School Administration from Mississippi College, McCarty makes his way back to Canton continuing a 28-year coaching career which has included assistant coaching jobs at CA, MRA, Presbyterian Christian and Mississippi College and very successful head coaching jobs at Brookhaven Academy and Pillow Academy. His dedication to student-athletes and the game of football have awarded him many honors including State Championship titles, five-time District Coach of the Year, two-time All Star coach, multiple MAIS Coach of the Year awards and more. McCarty led his Pillow Academy team to set every offensive category record in his time there. He is also a certified quarterback and wide receiver instructor for National Football Academies, having traveled all over the United States in that role. After planning to settle in administration, McCarty says that God’s plan included a different and unexpected role for him at Canton. He says that being around Canton Academy students and the coaching staff made accepting the head coach position an easy decision. 

 

McCarty, a Camden native, his wife May (May Vaughan McGee, CA c/o ‘03) and their son, Stock, with black and gold in their blood, moved back to the Camden area and are excited to rejoin the Panther family. Coach McCarty says, “I’ve had several opportunities but none offered the potential that Canton Academy has going forward.” 

 

McCarty’s current and former players are excited about his decision. Former CA athlete and current CA parent, Allen Jerome (#19, C/O 2004) played for McCarty and said of him, “He is the only coach I ever had whose actions spoke louder than his words. He is the kind of coach you want your kid to play for.”
