greenandgoldhawk
It appears all team will remain in the same region for all sports whether the school participates in football, or any particular sport or not. This is my guess why some teams only have 4 or 5 teams when it comes to regions for football but have 6 included in all other sports. It also seemed like non-football schools were last to be placed in regions in an attempt to balance out regions based on locations once they can assure at least 4 football schools were in a region first. What are your thoughts about the new regions for the next 2 years? What team(s) do you look forward to seeing thriving in their region and make state runs? Do you think football should have 4 regions like now instead of 8 regions? Or should they refer to a power ranking like MAIS to determine playoff seedings (either 1-32 whole 1A,1-16 north & 1-16 south, 1-12 north & south and award the top 4 seeds first round byes, or a 1-24 whole 1A power ranking and give the top 8 teams first round byes) to make it more competitive to make the playoffs and make the playoff games more competitive? I do believe the goal should be to get the best two teams play for the title regardless of where they may be. Looks like the playoffs will start and end on the same week for all classifications. Pro(s)- Allows for more non-region games. Some teams shouldn’t have an excuse to schedule stronger opponents over a money game. Con(s)- Some region will have automatic qualifiers regardless of a very bad record unless there will be a 3 team region qualifier and top seeds get first round bye. MSUDawg11
Yeah, regions 2 & 3 are really, really bad.
MSSportsGuy
Years back when 1A had distircts with 4 or 5 teams, when only 2 would make the playoffs, coaches complained they coudln't find enough willing opponents for home games they had a tough time filling out. a schedule. That was the original reason to go to 4, 8 or 9 team regions. It appears coaches are no longer concerned about this. I think it's ridiculous to have a region where all the teams make the playoffs by default. I posted in another thread it's conceivable a 0-10 team would travel to a region 1 seed for a playoff game that serves no purpose. Moving 7 classes only waters down the level of competition in each class. This was just a money grab by the association that will serve no purpose. I think it's now 24, 24, 24, 40, 40, 40, 46 equals 238÷8=29 regions plus 6 schools. 7 classes by 4 regions plus 2 schools each.
