Where do we start?   I’m not against it, but there is so much that needs to be addressed, and the NCAA is just like “go for it”.   
 

How do y’all see this working?   Players can have agents now.   The school isn’t supposed to help them find “work”, but a third party is working with the players with the school’s compliance department’s guidance.  Cap or no cap?   How do you keep teams from having internal problems with jealousy?   How much time away from academics and preparation for playing will the players start to miss.  
 

I don’t see how some schools will have even more of an advantage when it comes to recruiting than they already do.  
 

Maybe colleges should just have “professional” teams with the school name.  Just pay them to play and not worry about degrees and studying.

For many years I've been for the players getting paid.

I'm not sure how this will work, I lean towards it will farther separate the haves/have nots. If there are no caps in place, wouldn't players on the most recognized teams get the better NIL deals most of the time? 

Sure you'll have examples (Dak, Eli, etc.) of "smaller" school players getting good NIL pay, but for the most part QBs, RBs, WRs, etc that play for constant nationally televised teams like Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Clemson, etc. 

 

Satch, you hit on what I've always thought may be the only "fair" way to pull off playing the players. Call it what it is, a semi pro/farm league for the NFL with a similar salary cap structure. If players want to earn a degree while there, that's great. If they don't want to go to class, that's fine also. 

 

Either way they do it, I see it pretty much killing many schools like USM... they will likely drop down a level.

Can Nick Saban's Mercedes dealership openly pay an Alabama player to be a spokesperson? I'm guessing there are no rules against that, and no cap on what amount can be paid from what little I've read. 

While I don't see any million dollar deals this year, it will happen... and some of these deals will come basically internally just like the dealership I listed. 

I'm not trying to single out Bama here, EVERY school will use this to their advantage... and I don't blame any of them. 

 

I'm wondering how much Franklin Furniture pays to sponsor an MSU signee? How much Batesville Casket pays to sponsor an OM signee? Etc.

No rules against boosters paying a player for their NIL.  It will be a bidding war on signing day this year.  Hell, with the new transfer rule, it won’t just be signing day.   
 

I would say to the players get as much as you can this year or in the next couple.  Being paid for your NIL is here to stay, but I see some regulation coming in the future, if not from the NCAA or conferences, then federal government.  
 

I’m all for the players getting their opportunities, and it will be extremely interesting to see how all of it plays out. I know people get tired of the NCAA and conferences making so much money while it’s the players playing the game, but this has created a whole new segment of adults making money off the players.  At least the players are getting something though.

So Corral is charging $10k/hr for speaking engagements.  Wonder how many boosters will hand it over?   The next closest is $2k for Miami’s QB.  
 

Tennessee State freshman basketball player, Hercy Miller has a $2m deal with a tech company.   Of course his dad, Master P,  probably helped him get that deal.  It’s getting really interesting.

Bryce Young, according to Saban, has almost reached $1m in deals and hasn’t even started a game yet.   
Great for Young.  Not so great for teams not named Bama.

Like I said when this NIL passed. 

I agree with paying the players. 

The way this is set up, Bama/Notre Dame/Clemson/Ohio State/etc. will make the gap even bigger between those blue bloods and the Ole Miss/MSU/Texas Tech/etc. 

Most "group of 5" teams will be left out in the cold. 

 

We're headed to the 4 "super conferences" soon. There's smoke to Oklahoma and Texas wanting to jump to the SEC, which lines up with my thoughts that the "Big 12" will be the "Power 5" to go away when it goes down to 4.
