I looked at some numbers from October 2021. Matter of fact 8-11 which will be next year's 9-12 put Picayune as 6A. Enterprise was lower than the current numbers so you may be 2A depending on the cut line. Bay Springs may be 2A again pending the cut line. I think Enterprise was at 288 vs Bay Springs 239. Picayune has a larger 8th grade so certainly they will go 6A eventually for at least 2 years. None of us know exactly what the proposal is. That's the million dollar question along with what they turn in on October 1, 2022. They will be eyeing this new set up closely especially if they are close to the current dividing line. Either 2021-2022 year numbers from October 1 (Grades 9-12) or they could use last counts numbers. I think MHSAA may be wanting to start it now because of impending consolidation with Magee/Mendenhall. If we start in the 22-24 season, the next reclassification would be 24-25 which is what many project would be the new school’s first season. When I get a chance I will go back and look at current #'s 18-30, etc to see whose going up or down in 9-12 grade #'s. Who knows how this will turn out. EnterpriseBulldogsFan
Really think they should wait until the 2023-24 school year ; it's going to cause chaos with a lot of schools schedules; for Enterprise our region will be the same minus Morton. I imagine Morton will be just another non region game unless Morton has a district opponent for that date; at which point Enterprise will have to schedule someone else. It definitely will put a time crunch on schools to get games scheduled, but I could see them going for it and doing it now that way when Simpson County consolidates, it won’t be in the middle of reclass and they can account for that when taking numbers for 24-25 reclass year. If I read it correctly Morton will be 4A and will likely play R5-3A opponent who ever has an open date. Both regions could be or 6 schools. Morton is or was our first Region game around the first of October; if Morton doesnt have a region opponent we can just leave them on the schedule but with a five team region we will have to schedule someone else or we could just leave it open and have a bye date; thats the middle of the season and at that point a team has some bumps and bruises and we could use a rest before district starts. If they vote early April, it will give teams plenty of time to get games set up. Most teams could probably keep their non-region intact anyway. Would not be too hard to pick up 1-2 more
