No date it’s 15 practices Wayne County won’t start theirs until May 1st.

No I wasn’t surprised about Bud. Me and Slick were talking the other day we both think as long as the defensive staff stays intact this will be a good move. Cory is a good offensive mind and given a fair chance he may be there several years.

Cory may take on his own play calling. Merlin is the rest of the staff staying other than OC?

Dub I agree I believe it’s a solid hire. He played with Bubba Davis then coached with him for years in Alabama and Petal. Then he was with Marcus Boyles a couple of times at Petal. Before heading to OG and coach Causey. He’s put in the time for sure with some good coaches

I said this when the news that he was retiring come out. The wait is 90 days from the time of his resignation. But with this school board you never know if they would allow that.

It’s a dangerous game they’re playing. WC played the same game when Coach Mangum retired and it backfired. They went through two coaches in three seasons the last was an interim hire during Covid. Then went out of state to hire coach Hankins who will be going into his third season trying to build things back up.

I don’t think nobody knows who’s official. Everyone is playing armchair QB so to speak. I believe Reynolds would be a good hire. He has several years under Bubba Davis followed by a several years under Marcus Boyles at Petal. He had some personal issues and lost his Dad while at SJ that all led do his departure. But I’m still hearing Mitch Evans . But you never know what the school board has in mind.

A friend of mine from WJ that’s close to the program told me today that he’s hearing a lot of Mitch Evans talk.

As Coach Marcus Boyles says it’s more about the Jimmy’s and Joe’s than the X’s and O’s. They have a splash coach with a proven track record but do they have those Jimmy’s and Joe’s?

My daughter Graduated high with Tracy Lampley he a qualified coach and a Great young man. Now on to the DC he comes from a football family I believe his grandfather is former USM head Coach Jim Carmody. If I wrong someone please correct me.

You are absolutely correct on all points. Pierson did an outstanding job and he let his assistants coach. West will be stepping up to 6A next season but so will Hattiesburg and Picayune. I’m not familiar with the coach at Bay Springs but they have had some elite talent the past few seasons. Coach Bud Blackledge is a good OC he won a state title at WC in 2015 then won another with WJ. Not sure if the new coach would keep him but I would as well as DC. Especially coming in so late

I could be completely wrong but I believe he has to be away from the school for like 90 days or so after submitting his retirement papers before he could rehire. Again that may not be on his mind at all but he could come back.

He could come back like Marcus Boyles did at Petal after retiring. It’s all about the timing of the announcement kind of interesting. Either way I wish him the best he’s one of the best and a really good guy.

Drexler Johnson from Wayne County is still in the top five career TDs in the state. He may be the best on field leader I’ve watched

A name they could look at Former WC and USM standout Tracy Lampley. He was at OS not sure if he went to Gulfport or not. He’s looking to become a HC he’s young very ambitious. He has time under some very good coaches.

Hattiesburg was a very good football team. I know WC has been on the opposite end of being a #1 seed playing a #4 seed and lost a couple to a PRC team that we should have beaten pretty easily. No disrespect to them but one year we had a team many favored to win state. Sometimes teams go in thinking all they have to do is show up, I believe that’s what happened with Hattiesburg.

You’re right well as far as my knowledge of Vancleve, EC, Guatier and SC goes I’m basically going off of last season. WC was in a region with EC they were a hard nosed team now Seth was coaching then. SC was in the region with WC a few years ago but dropped to 4A. I’m not sure what Guatier is returning but I know who they aren’t lol the QB now he had some playmakers around him. Last season in the playoffs was their first win over WC. I know absolutely nothing about Vancleve. WC and Laurel return almost everything

He did a great job at Stone County but wants to bring back one of the state’s storied programs. Can he idk but if it can be done he can. Remember Stone wasn’t exactly a powerhouse when he took over. Also look at the region Stone County is in next season. Every team in it was in the 5A playoffs. It will be the most competitive region in 5A. But I promise you that’s not why he left he wants the challenge respect that.

We both know the MHSAA is about the all mighty dollar so yes it’s here to stay. I hope in the future we can schedule you guys in non region games we’ve had some great games throughout the years. I was glad we were able to keep WJ on schedule.
