Private School Recruiting Hurting Public School Sports?
MadisonReb10 replied to BrickCity's topic in Football
Hartfield absolutely does it. There’s been a few kids who would’ve never set foot on that campus when it was UCS but now is essentially controlled by Pinelake. Prep has done it some. JA has been big on recruiting JPS schools the last 5 or 6 years. MRA got into the mix a decade or so ago again with JPS but would routinely get kids that wouldn’t start at MC or NWR as freshman or sophomores but probably would have by the time they were seniors. Tri County and Canton Academy are no different. CA has pulled a lot of guys from the Canton Public Schools that were the difference in a 13 win team the year before to a 3 win team the next season. -
Also admins if that was not appropriate to post please remove or let me know and I will. Edited to add that this has been all over Barstool and national media. Literally makes our state a laughing stock and reiterates the stereotype that Mississippi has even more

The full video clearly shows this guy screaming from the stands and using profanity with women and children in the video. That coach that’s in trouble did it to himself.

MC won 50-12 over West Jones for the final.

Wow. What a take. I promise you I wouldn’t take the time to post anything like this if it was a “Madison” vote only. Also I would be concerned if the years Tupelo or any other school won that “Madison” voted on that.

Private School Recruiting Hurting Public School Sports?
MadisonReb10 replied to BrickCity's topic in Football
It likely depends on the area honestly. I could see delta schools pulling players into private schools as well as some of the rural areas or academically bad school districts like JPS. I don’t think the big time public schools are losing starters to private schools but they can lose valuable back ups that would start the following year. The Jackson schools lose players to JA, Prep, and MRA for better academics as well as football as bad as it may seem. -
I know there are a lot of dominant football programs, basketball programs, baseball programs, etc. but this is elite stuff going back that many years for all athletics. Goes to show how good of a community and athletic department Madison Central really is, as well as one of the top academic public schools in the state.

Thoughts and prayers to Brandon HS and the Brandon Community. Just saw where a 17 year old passed today possibly due to heat, though not confirmed. It was only stated that it was not injury related. Be careful out there, take the necessary breaks, and stay hydrated. Far too soon for this young man. https://www.wlbt.com/2022/08/02/authorities-identify-brandon-high-school-football-player-who-died/?outputType=amp

Who did Hardin bring along with him from Houston and were any coaches retained from the previous staff?
-
I’d like to know which “folks” are comparing Tupelo to a JUCO team. What will that make the rest of the district when Tupelo misses the playoffs or gets the 4 seed?
-
Tupelo missed the playoffs because they played in 2-6A instead of playing against the Desoto County teams. They beat the worst and 2nd worst district teams in Murrah and Germantown and took L’s against Clinton and Starkville and got drilled by Oxford and MC.

Yeah the original bump and giggle was excellent referring to the big 3 private schools in the metro. He coached my position group even as HC (QB and RB). Some of the stuff that came out of his mouth during film with just his QB’s and RB’s are stuff I’ll still quote to the day after 14 to 16 years later. I’d probably be banned if I said it on this board lol

Interesting because on 247 I’m only looking at one player from OG listed as an athlete with no offers. Also checked the 2024 class and no OG players were listed there either.

And Marcus Rogers is a far better coach than any of the GCS guys. He’s one of the best in the state and has had a relationship with the guys he’s got now after being there for the past 4-5 years. The man took over a 2 win team and instantly made Holmes County contenders.
-
GCS will get boatraced by MRA this year. They lost a ton and don’t seem to have it coming in like they did with nearly an entire team going due to covid. As far as Hillcrest goes, what was once a proud program in all sports is barely able to field a team. Early 2000’s they were really good and at least competing with Prep and JA. Now they’ve gone down multiple classifications and have literally only won 17 games in the last decade. 17 games over 10 years.
-
Will also add that there are a ton of hoops guys in the hallway who won’t give football a shot, but that’s JPS. Seems like Lanier, Forest Hill, Murrah, Callaway, Provine, and Jim Hill have all won a title in women or mens hoops multiple times in the last 15 years. Wingfield being the odd one out recently but used to be great way back when. Add in Raymond who is not JPS but still under the Hinds County schools and the basketball is even better.
-
Provine was always good to decent in the late 90s and early to mid 2000’s. Callaway more recently but they’ve also had the D1 talent. Murrah couldn’t even muster more than one winning record and a 1st round playoff loss with Malik Dear, who I will say is the most talented player in JPS from the last 20 years. Ahead of Antoine Taylor, all of the Callaway guys, etc. Quinton Culberson is the only one who comes close talent wise since 2000 in JPS.
-
Away side fence was far too close too. Myself and Pat “Durwood” Durr had a few collisions on that fence from middle school throughout high school in the mid 2000’s. Actually had a teammate in high school dislocate their shoulder on that fence. If you’re running full speed and meeting the ball carrier on the sideline there was no way you wouldn’t go crashing into it. Good times
-
JA has honestly probably had more top end talent the past few years compared to Prep. Dieon Smith, Dakota Jordan, Walenta, Marcus Harris, Tate Collins who came from Madison Central after getting beat out by Vic Sutton. They’ve had some really good players and couldn’t do much with them. They’ve tapped into JPS far more than any of the others. I know Hartfield had a few the last couple of years.
-
False. Marcus himself has said the highest offered was $250k per year of college so $1 million if he chose to take it and stay all 4 years. He did however get offered an oil well at one point though lol but he didn’t sign with either school that offered that.
-
Nothing about Lance Pogue is the best high school coach in the state. He had the best of the best during the SP tenure and fans were sick of his offense and wanted the D to be as good as it was in the 2000’s with Woods. With JA he was consistently 3rd of the big 3 metro teams.
-
I’m back for now lol but I feel like it’s you that’ll face the music… again
-
Because one is basically in Hattiesburg and the other is in Carriere?

What a foolish take. Sure every private school recruits as well as public schools. If a parent can better the kid’s education at MRA other than any JPS school then they should do so. Same goes for Prep and JA. It means everything to a lot of families that have their kids “recruited” and given a better opportunity for education. Go ahead and throw athletics in as well because MRA, Prep, JA would honestly boat race a JPS school. Just facts and I’m a Madison Central guy.
