Nearly every private school AND every large public school that competes yearly does that. Larger schools are always stealing home grown talents from smaller schools, but that doesnt seem to be a topic of discussion. The private schools been wreaking havoc taking kids from public school these past 2 years, especially from towns that didnt play football. No offense to anybody, but why is Greenville Christian giving kids an opportunity they didnt have an issue? When these patriarch/private schools, especially those in the lower classes, got and go get these high quality players and playing in the lower class nobody said anything. When the MHSAA told these schools they will apply a multiplier to those schools to properly classify them in the classification, nearly all of them jumped to the MAIS stating it is unfair for the MHSAA to apply a multiplier and determine a class and region based off that. No other smaller schools recruiting players. There may be another school jumping ship soon too to the MAIS.

The city of Greenville currently has 2 MHSAA schools and 3 MAIS schools within or less than 0.25 miles of the city limits. (O’bannon is attached to the city, but geographically located on the side of the street that is considered out the city limit). How do yall think Greenville would be sports wise if there were only 1 public and 1 private school to cover that entire area?

Region 3 is a mess right now. West Lowndes is #1. I am going to guess that Sebastopol is #2, French Camp is #3 and Ethel is #4 in that 3 way tie with Hamilton sitting outside at #5 hoping somebody slip up. A tie breaker with any of those teams doesnt favor Hamilton unless they beat Sebastopol.

We are down to the final game of the regular season and still have a few playoff spots to be locked in. Which teams do you think will likely get some road wins in the playoffs? Do you think there is a potential upset anywhere in this list of games? Most teams have already secured a playoff position, locked in their playoff seeding regardless of outcomes this week, and a few just need to win to maintain seedings at this point. Key Games: Coffeeville at West Tallahatchie- Playoff play-in game where winner is the 4th place team in Region 2. Hamilton at Sebastopol- Essentially a must win for Hamilton to potentially for Hamilton to make post season. Sebastopol could go from hosting a home playoff game to possibly being out the playoffs with a loss. Okolona at Falkner- Okolona currently owns the tie-breaker over HW Byers. A win secures 4th place seeding for them Tupelo Christian at HW Byers- HW Byers does not own the head to head tie breaker over Okolona. Byers will need a win and Okolona loss to make the playoffs. Games: Ashland at Biggersville Bay Springs at Lumberton Coffeeville at West Tallahatchie Enterprise-Lincoln at Mount Olive French Camp at Leake Academy Hamilton at Sebastopol Okolona at Falkner McAdams at McEvans Noxapater at Ethel Resurrection at Taylorsville Salem at Richton Simmons at Coldwater Thrasher at Smithville Tupelo Christian at HW Byers Vardaman at West Lowndes West Bolivar at South Delta

I would love to hear more on what is Byers and Bay Springs style of play. I believe Byers took Ingomar to overtime and many said Byers should have beaten Ingomar. I also believe Bay Springs may have gotten some championships if Coahoma County wasnt in their way. It should definitely be a fun year with more competitive basketball teams in 1A this year. -

South Delta is suppose to have a very explosive point guard with a few big size guys who can fit around him and love to get after it. -

McEvans (Shaw) have been playing mostly freshmen mixed in with 1-3 seniors and 1-2 juniors and was getting significant playing time, growth, experience and achieved 2 state semi-final appearances the past 2 years against some very good competition. Last years team was a sophomore starting lineup with 1 senior. Now those then freshmen 2 years ago and now juniors heavy led team got 2 years to try and pull off a championship. Maybe not deep in depth but who knows who may have worked and developed over the summer. -

They should be strong along with defending champs Biggersville. The Delta 1A schools are in the South in basketball and all other sports other than football. Bay Springs and probably athletic teams like Taylorsville and West Lowndes is probably who the Delta schools will will have to keep an eye on to get to Jackson. -

2A is probably Coahoma County. They will be stronger with Coahoma Aggie changing to a college prep school. A lot of students and athletes there at Coahoma Aggie got merged into Coahoma County and Maybe a few to Clarksdale. Aggie have had some strong teams and those guys mixed with Coahoma County guys should be a very strong team. -
Two weeks left until postseason play and a lot of region seeding will be determine over the next two weeks. Key Games: Taylorsville at Bay Spring- The Region Championship Game For sole control of 1st Place in region 4. Biggersville at Okolona- A chance to move along or secure spots in the seeding for both teams. Richton at Mount Olive- A game to likely seal a playoff spot with a win. Smithville at Tupelo Christian. Tupelo seals the division with a win. Smithville can shake things up a little bit with a win. South Delta at Coffeeville- A spot in the post season will be secured by the winner. Resurrection at Enterprise-Lincoln. An absolute must win game for Enterprise-Lincoln to stay alive in the playoff hunt for post season play. They will need some help with losses from Richton and Mount Olive. Sebastopol at French Camp. A win for French Camp will help them secure a home game in the first round. A loss for Sebastopol will cause chaos and increase chances to potentially miss the playoffs. Vardaman at Ethel- A Vardaman win keeps their playoff hopes alive. An Ethel win secures a playoff spot for them. Games: Ashland at Falkner Biggersville at Okolona Leake County at Hamilton Lumberton at Salem McEvans at Coldwater Resurrection at Enterprise-Lincoln Richton at Mount Olive Sebastopol at French Camp Smithville at Tupelo Christian South Delta at Coffeeville Taylorsville at Bay Springs Thrasher at HW Byers Vardaman at Ethel West Bolivar at Simmons West Tallahatchie at McAdams

We will have to see how they will finish out.

The playoffs are starting to shape up a little bit. Tupelo Christian, Simmons, West Lowndes, Bay Springs and Taylorsville currently control their own destiny for the top spots in each region. A few teams will have playoff spots clinched within the next two weeks and a few spots will come down to the end of the season. Key Games: Byers at Smithville: Byers got off to a good division start playing weaker opponents. Can they steal a win versus the stronger district opponents to keep a playoff spot? Ethel at West Lowndes: Ethel has a shot to dethrone the region leader and take control of their division. McEvans at South Delta: Essentially the 2nd place game for region 2 and the loser likely 3rd place to finish the division. Mount Olive at Resurrection: Winner keeps the playoffs hopes alive. Loser will have to hope for a miracle to make the playoffs. Richton at Taylorsville: Richton currently control their destiny for the one of the playoff spot. A win would surely help them. Taylorsville is still tied for the top spot with Bay Springs and do not have plans on releasing the top spot. Games: Byers at Smithville Coldwater at West Bolivar Enterprise-Lincoln at Lumberton Ethel at West Lowndes Falkner at Biggersville French Camp at Noxapater Hamilton at Vardaman Leake County at Sebastopol McAdams at Coffeeville McEvans at South Delta Mount Olive at Resurrection Okolona at Ashland Richton at Taylorsville Salem at Bay Springs Simmons at West Tallahatchie Tupelo Christian at Thrasher

I see there is some slight confusion about the school McEvans and how the name came to be. It has nothing to do with Ray Brooks closing. The students from Ray Brooks were both divided into West Bolivar and Shaw school. Shaw had 2 separate schools operated out of one building and two sets of administrative/office staff. The school board decided that there just needed to be one administrative staff serving grades k-12 rather than having 2 administrative staff with 1 serving k-8 and 1 serving 9-12. The school bord and concerned parents of the area elected to take the current middle school name due to that building being the primary building used and the historical values he brought to the area to minorities at that time. Sidenote: Mr McEvans is a man born from the Ray Brooks area who moved to Shaw to help establish and flourish businesses and minorities in this area.
